Interlagos stands alone within Gran Turismo 7 as the only Brazilian circuit, and we think it would be agreeable if that changed shortly. For now, though, bask in its undulating glory by taking part in the latest Online Time Trial – Lap Time Challenge.
This time it’s not paired with a Gr.3 car or even Senna’s McLaren, but the current pinnacle of Mercedes-AMG’s Balck Series line – the AMG GT from 2020. A beastly front-mid-engine sports car to rival Porsche’s GT3 line, its engine sounds like a vacuum sadly. Still, for a car of this ilk, it’s capable of an impressive turn of speed.
Also, while we like the orange, we’re going for AMG Green Hell Mango, because that’s one heck of a colour name.
It’s open now, between 26th October to early on 9th November and if you set a competitive time, up to two million n-game credits could be yours. Every little helps when you’re aiming for those cars that cost 20!
Before we jump into further details, don’t forget that two Honda-related challenges are live for just a few more days, there’s also a Michelin competition plus the existing Mazda-Alsace combination. That’s five time trails now available with a maximum reward of 10 million. Good luck!
Recommended car: Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Black Series ’20 (Brand Central, 420,000 Credits or free rental)
Interlagos track guide
Right, remember, this is a road caron Sports Soft tyres. You will not be beating any GT3 (Gr.3) or GT4 (Gr.4) lap times and consequently, you must eradicate those braking zones from your reflexes.
For the first corner, brake at the 150-metre board, just as you crest the first rise. It may seem like a long way from the apex, but it’s necessary.
As there’s not enough grip, but a lot of torque, use lower gears to turn in, then almost immediately short-shift up (using manual gears) at the corner’s mid-point before re-applying the gas. For example, at the first corner, shift down to second by the corner entry, but shift up to third before its exit.
Then immediately up to four gear as you cut across the kerb on the inside of the second corner. For the fourth corner, a mid-speed left-hander, again brake early, this time in-between the 150 and 100 marker boards.
For the middle sector, make use of your gear technique from earlier. Down to second for the corner entry, short-shifting mid-corner.
For Turn 12, brake just after the exit kerb on the right finishes, still way before the 50-metre board. Again, short shift for maximum traction at the exit.
Gran Turismo 7’s Lap Time Challenges explained
GT7‘s Lap Time Challenge is a time trial mode where you compete against other players to set the fastest time on the leaderboard. However, there’s a caveat: setting a lap within three per cent of the fastest time nets players 2,000,000 Credits.
If you aren’t quite quick enough, then lapping within five per cent gains you 1,000,000 Credits, while a time inside 10 per cent of the fastest results in a 250,000 Credit payout.
