Gran Turismo 7’s next game update is now official, the covers coming off the car line-up today (19th August 2026) ahead of its release on Thursday 20th August.
Okay, for many people that won’t be the case; however, at least the Ioniq 6 N is interesting. It tries to be a BEV for enthusiasts, so there’s trick suspension, upgraded brakes and finely tuned torque vectoring. It’s not about straight-line speed, but Nürburgring lap times.
It follows the likes of the Ioniq 5 N and Elantra N TCR as Blu Tack-blue models from the Korean brand added to Gran Turismo 7.
While the Caterham Seven has been produced for 53 years, and before that the design as a Lotus Seven since 1957, this particular Superlight R500 ceased production in 2014.
It’s known as one of the more aggressive Sevens, owing to its incredibly light 506kg kerb weight, paired with a 263bhp engine.
All models by the British brand are uncompromising, but this one more than most. It means the marque returns to the game series for the first time since 2013’s Gran Turismo 6.
Toyota Chaser Tourer V ’97
On the face of it, the sixth-generation Toyota Chaser was an incongruous sight at Japanese drift events by dint of its four-door family saloon looks.
But what the scene realised was that its front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout was ideal for spirited driving. So too was the legendary dependability thanks to Toyota’s exemplary build quality. Oh, and it could come equipped with either a 1JZ or 2JZ engine, which were easily tunable.
Cult classic.
Toyota Mark II Tourer V ’97
Another Japanese saloon, with a modifiable engine up front sending power to the rear. Sounds remarkably similar to the aforementioned Chaser.
Thanks because the Mark II is based on the same X100 platform, hailing from the mid-1990s when Japanese manufacturers would produce numerous derivations of the same car, some even sold in separate dealership networks. For an outsider, it’s all rather confusing.
So while the Mark II does look different (ish) to the Chaser, presumably for game developer Polyphony Digital, once it had the latent powertrain model replicated for one, it wasn’t a mammoth task to complete the sibling too.
World Circuits events
Alongside the four new cars, the August update also adds three new World Circuits race events:
Japanese FR Challenge 450
Kyoto Driving Park – Yamagiwa
European Clubman Cup 600
Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya GP Layout No Chicane
World Touring Car 600
Suzuka Circuit
Scape location
Virtual car photographers will find a new Scape photo location set in the Whistler resort town in British Columbia, Canada, which hosted mountain events during the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Physics changes and leaderboard reset
Alongside the new cars and events, update 1.71 introduces a host of physics changes, from new tyre physics and suspension modifications to improved torque simulation.
As a result of these physics changes, the leaderboards have been reset for World Circuits events, Licence challenge rankings, Missions results and Circuit Experience events.
Engine swaps
Update 1.71 adds several new engine swaps, including, bizarrely, a Suzuki Jimny’s kei car 658cc engine swap for the Caterham Seven. Alternatively, you can fit a GT3 spec-engine to a Mercedes 300 SEL race car.
Online time trial challenges
The latest update introduces two online time trial challenges featuring the newly added cars.
The first challenges you to beat the target time at the Nurburgring 24h in the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N, while the second has you tackling Autopolis International Race Course in a Caterham Seven Superlight RS500.

Circuit Experience
A new Circuit Experience event has been added, with up to 200,000 credits up for grabs for setting the fastest time on Barcelona’s rallycross layout.
Fanatec GT DD Pro now supports FullForce
For Fanatec wheel users, FullForce haptic feedback effects are now enabled for the older GT DD Pro, which was replaced with the DD Extreme. A new “optimised” set of parameters can also be found in the wheel’s Tuning Menu by selecting ‘Auto Setup.’
