Asetek CEO André Eriksen revealed several new products in a recent presentation, including a whole range of entry-level sim racing products called Initium.
Part of this new console-focused ecosystem includes a new cockpit, creating an affordable entry point to fixed-position sim racing.
Designed as a hybrid GT and formula-style rig, the Initium cockpit will ship as a flat-packed package with a focus on ease of construction and rigidity. Indeed, Eriksen was at pains to suggest the Initium could handle the rigours of both its entry-level and high-end products with minimal flex.
The Initium can be constructed with the seat rails above the pedal plate to provide a more upright seating position akin to a GT car, and it can also be built the other way around, providing a more low-slung, formula-style position.
The rig also appears to be highly adjustable for reach and height thanks to multiple pivot points, with caster wheels located to the rear of the unit (or front, depending on its configuration) allowing easy manoeuvrability.

The Initium will ship without a monitor mount but will include a foldable seat ideal for storage when not in use. The monitor mount will be available as an optional extra.
Asetek hasn’t announced a release date for the new rig or its Initium series of console-compatible steering wheels, wheelbases and pedals yet but more information is expected shortly.
