Danish sim racing hardware manufacturer Asetek has surprisingly launched a whole new product line aimed squarely at entry-level players.

The Initium line (Latin for ‘beginning’) is designed to be affordable, even more so than Asetek’s La Prima ecosystem of steering wheels and pedals. But the real headline feature is that Initium will mark Asetek’s tentative first steps into console compatibility.

Initially, there will be pedals, wheelbases and steering wheels launched under the Initium banner, with a sim rig too. CEO of Asetek Simsports, André Eriksen, even went as far as to state it will be possible to own an Initium steering wheel, pedal set, wheelbase, rig and seat for less than the price of an Invicta steering wheel (prices are configurable for the Invicta, but this could mean around €/$ 1,000).

In a video presentation that revealed a whole host of other products, including new button boxes, pedal upgrades and a quick-release adapter, Eriksen also revealed that console support would only include Xbox, but did not mention PlayStation compatibility.

Eriksen did, however, reveal the Initium cockpit, an entry-level sim rig with a focus on adjustability. Priced at €/$399.99, there were no indications as to its release date.
