Project Motor Racing, the game formerly known as GTRevival, will not be released in 2024.
Ian Bell, the CEO of developer Straight4 Studios had posted his hopes for a 2024 release for the sim on his personal X account, but with the game now ditching Unreal Engine it was thought the release window would slip.
In an interview with Traxion.GG, asked whether 2024 was still a realistic aim Bell stated: “No. [2024] was an aim when we didn’t have to change [game] engines,” referring to the switch from Unreal to an as-yet-unnamed game engine.
“Changing engines is huge. We felt to plug everything back into the new engine then work it to the way we wanted in terms of rendering… we’re taking our time to do the product right,” Bell commented firmly.
“We’re making sure [it’ll be] something we’ll be proud of that is the Project CARS 4 that we always wanted,” said Bell, referring to the Project CARS series of games his Slightly Mad Studios created prior to being acquired by American publishing giant Electronic Arts.
“Project CARS 4 was going to be a hardcore simulation but [also] a really good game and that’s what we want to do with the new one,” he concluded.
VR issues
A major reason for the game engine switch was Unreal Engine’s well-known issues with VR performance: “We couldn’t get 120 fps. No matter what we did, it just wasn’t working with VR. So for that reason we decided to make a change,” commented Bell, with many sim racers’ experience of VR in Assetto Corsa Competizione tallying with his statement.
The result is that all of Straight4’s well-publicised images and videos of GTRevival from the last few months do not represent the current state of Project Motor Racing (to be published by GIANTS Software). Until more progress is made with the new game engine we await more news, images and footage of the sim with bated breath, including a revised release date.
Further announcements are expected during August’s gamescom event.

Sounds good, except don’t make a “game”, with the amount spent on SIM racing, it’s an esport.
Studio Straight 4 always promises but does not deliver, which frustrates the public. They promise monthly publications, starting in August, but only offer silence. We are rooting for them and helping with publications, but it is difficult! Follow Instagram @sinalverderace
