The big news is out: BeamNG.drive will be released on PlayStation 5 on 19th October.
BeamNG’s PS5 port will apparently feature all the functionality of the PC version (barring one crucial aspect; more details here), with both editions developed concurrently. The game will initially release as build V0.40, featuring an all-new vehicle and a host of other improvements.
However, perhaps the biggest new feature announced for V0.40 and the PS5 release is local split-screen multiplayer, with a new game trailer showing it in action.
The footage didn’t give much away, though: it showed two cars drifting on a fairly barren track with the screen split vertically, so we don’t know whether the mode will be restricted to certain game Scenarios and locations or whether it will even feature AI traffic.
We also don’t know whether split-screen mode will be available on the PC version when V0.40 drops, but the format’s technical superiority should make it possible, in theory.
Another factor to consider is the PlayStation Store listing for the game, which indicates that BeamNG is for ‘1-4 players’. This may not be accurate, and it may refer to the game’s work-in-progress online multiplayer mode (which won’t be available in V0.40), but it’s an intriguing prospect we’ll aim to clarify as soon as possible.
