Game will be developed concurrently with PC version in Early Access
Local split-screen and FSR3 support confirmed
Since a PlayStation 5 version of BeamNG.drive was officially unveiled back in May this year, fans have been clamouring to know an exact release date.
Finally, today is the day: BeamNG will be released on PS5 on 19th October 2026.
Now, there are a few interesting details to add about the sandbox crash-em-up’s console release, so we’ve set out the major points below. Basically, we’re quite excited about this, and you should be too.
BeamNG updates will be released on PC and PS5 at the same time
Yes, those wondering exactly how an Early Access PC game could be ported to PS5 were right to ask, as both versions will receive the same updates near-concurrently, beginning with V0.40 in October.
BeamNG’s official PlayStation Store listing specifies it will be an Early Access title, so essentially the game will follow the same development path as it has done on PC for the last 11 years, featuring drip-fed – but crucially free – updates every few months.
It’s rare for Sony to approve an Early Access game, but not unusual, with the likes of Path of Exile 2 and Phasmophobia following the program. It is therefore assumed BeamNG’s PS5 release will be digital-only while in Early Access.
Now, here’s a biggie: local split-screen has been confirmed for the PS5 release, although we don’t know whether this will be a separate mode with its own scenarios to work through, or whether it gives players access to the full BeamNG experience just yet.
Hype. Split-screen local multiplayer confirmed for PS5!
It also hasn’t been confirmed whether local split-screen will appear on PC, but given there are fewer performance headaches than on console, it seems likely. We’ll update this section once we’ve clarified our questions with the BeamNG development team.
The game’s PS Store listing also describes the game as being for ‘1-4’ players, so perhaps local multiplayer won’t be limited to just two players…
Crash physics appear to be intact on PS5
Same game engine and online multiplayer
The PS5 version of the game will run on the same engine as the PC version, so physics, game modes and graphics will largely remain similar between formats.
This means that career and rally modes will carry over onto console, although it’s not yet known whether career mode progress will reset itself after every update as it does currently on PC. The usual array of crazy Scenarios, car customisation and detailed soft-body crash damage modelling will be in play on PS5, with players able to meddle with wind speed and gravity settings to their hearts’ content. The game’s new photo mode will also be available on PS5.
However, official online multiplayer will be absent on both PC and PS5 in V0.40, but is definitely being worked on for future updates.
Mods
However, what definitely won’t make it over to console are the game’s World Editor tools. The Beam team hasn’t ruled out console mods in future – the game has its own Mod Repository storefront system after all – but they definitely won’t appear in V0.40.
More information and an official developer statement on the game’s PS5 mod support can be found in our accompanying article here.
Steering wheel support
It hasn’t been confirmed whether BeamNG on PS5 will allow players to use steering wheel peripherals, but it’s hoped this will be the case.
In my opinion, the game feels more intuitive to play with a gamepad anyway, especially after V0.39’s overhauled control scheme was implemented (I await your inflammatory comments, dear reader).
