Amidst announcing that paid DLC is coming to its arcade racing reboot of Tokyo Xtreme Racer, developer Genki has also cast doubt on the potential of the game coming to Xbox and Nintendo Switch consoles.

The game was originally released on PC via Steam Early Access on 23rd January 2025, before hitting V1.0 in September of the same year. The Japanese developer had always maintained it would look into porting the latest entry in its long-running series to consoles, but only a PlayStation 5 version materialised, releasing in February this year.

To the disappointment of Xbox and Nintendo fans, it looks like the wait for a TXR port will have to go on a little longer, with Genki releasing an official statement on the subject:

‘We are continuing to consider bringing Tokyo Xtreme Racer to other platforms. However, due to technical challenges, we are not currently at a stage where we can commit to release the game on additional platforms.

‘If and when we are able to share further information, we will make an official announcement,’ the statement concluded.

For technical reasons, then, TXR will remain a PS5 and PC game only in the foreseeable future. Crucially, however, Genki has not ruled out the possibility of bringing the game to other platforms in the long term, so all may not be lost.
