After an uncharacteristic off-day at Daytona last week, reigning champion Sebastian Job needed a heap of points to get back into contention for the 2025 Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup crown.

With race victory in the main race, after an extraordinary battle with Diogo Pinto, he certainly achieved that, although Alejandro Sanchez left a virtual Italy as points leader.

Race 1

It was Sanchez who took pole this time around, with Daytona race winners Florian Lebigre and Cooper Webster nowhere to be seen in the top 10.

Despite the tight first turn, and little room for error all around the track, all 29 starters made it through the first lap without problems, behind the Spaniard who led from pole.

While he and 2023 champion Jordan Caruso worked on building a gap, the others scrapped for the all-important eighth place, and reverse grid pole.

In his eagerness to get there, Diogo Pinto made a badly-judged move on Luke McKeown into turn one, punting the Apex Racing Team driver into a spin, and promoting himself into the top eight. Only time will tell if the stewards do anything post-race.

Further up front though, Caruso was gearing up to make a wonderful switchback move into turn one. Pretending he would use the outside, he swooped to the inside just before the braking zone, outfoxing Sanchez and earning himself, there and then, his first win of the season.

Race 2

Oscar Py converted race two pole into an early lead, while behind Sam Kuitert (having his second lap one crash in two weeks), Elvis Rankin and Carlos Fenollosa all had separate opening lap woes.

It was quickly clear that Py was not going to hold the others off for long, and Pinto, benefitting from his dubious move in race one, took the lead on lap two.

Job would set off in chase after him once he reached second three laps later, and catch up with five to go. What followed was the most extraordinary exchange of the season so far.

The two drivers, with three titles between them, raced side-by-side for over three quarters of a lap, not giving each other an inch. Eventually, Job prevailed, but not before Yohann Harth led the race of the field back to them.

Job would hold on for the rest of the race, with little resistance from the others, to take home his 17th main race victory in PESC history. Sanchez would come home fifth, and to go along with second place in race one, would take an eight-point championship lead into Spa next weekend.

For Job, there is still plenty of work to do, as he sits 40 points adrift in tied fourth.

But this round set down a marker for the others, who are looking to stop the first back-to-back in series history. They were shown just what kind of fight they’d be in with one of sim racing’s greats.
