A future classic: GT Sport Daily Races, w/c 6th December 2021

I’ve waxed lyrical about this car before on Traxion.GG many times before, we even mentioned it on a prior podcast episode. It represents, to me, a bygone homologation special era, perhaps the last of its kind too. I’m talking about the Toyota GR Yaris.

I won’t bore you with the details, as I’m sure you’re up to speed. But, taking a humdrum Yaris supermini, throwing away half the chassis to replace it with Corolla parts, stretching a custom body over the top and adding in four-wheel drive is a masterstroke.

GT Sport is currently the only driving game you can experience the pocket rocket virtually, and this week’s online Sport Mode Daily Races features one of the acclaimed hot hatches. Let’s take a look at what else the menu for the week commencing 6th December 2021 has in store.

GT Sport Daily Races week commencing 6th December 2021

The GR Yaris appears immediately within Race A. Everyone on the grid has the same car and the venue is the tight Brands Hatch Indy Circuit. This is essentially a touring car race, so visits to the Paddock gravel trap and punts up the rear at Druids are to be expected.

The next race is at Monza, with the chicanes, in any GR.4 car of your choosing.

A word of warning. Please, try and brake for the two chicanes on lap one. That would really help. You’re not going to ignore this advice, are you..?

Someone undoubtedly will, though, so have your wits about you as the 16-car field races down to the Rettifilo.

The longer event this week, Race C, is at the often-overlooked Alsace Village and in the reverse layout. That means a narrow first couple of corners where overtaking isn’t really possible, so please don’t get any ideas.

You then plunge downhill into a fast right-hander and then a hairpin. This is the place to strike.

Any Gr.3 car is available and not only is there a mandatory pitstop, but you must use both soft and medium compound rubber at some point during the race. Good luck.

Full details of each race are below, and the playlist will next reset on Monday 13th December 2021. A reminder, Gran Turismo 7 is fast approaching – there’s been onboard footage of Deep Forest Raceway plus a brand new Vision Gran Turismo Porsche revealed.
