MicroProse has announced Throttle Trace, a new PC racer that aims to put a new twist on slot car racing.

According to the publisher, it will achieve this by “combining the immediacy of slot car racing” with ”the depth and authenticity of a full simulation.”

Created by solo developer Alex Taber at Unordered Games (the maker of the mobile game Vroomies), Throttle Trace sees players control their car using only the throttle and brake like a traditional slot car.

Uniquely, this is combined with simulation elements, such as tyre wear, temperature management, fuel load, aerodynamics and race strategy.

During races, AI opponents will have distinct personalities and behaviours, utilising the same physics as the player.

A career mode sees players rise through the ranks in a “persistent world”, build a reputation and earn opportunities with teams.

Alongside the career mode, time trials will allow players to compete for the fastest laps and compare them in online rankings. There is no mention of offline or online multiplayer, however.

Throttle Trace is heading to PC, but a release window or console release plans have yet to be confirmed.

In the racing game scene, MicroProse was best known for developing Geoff Crammond’s legendary Formula 1 simulation series, Grand Prix. Incidentally, the publisher is re-releasing the original four Grand Prix games on Steam sometime this year.
