Microsoft sent shockwaves when it announced last year that Forza Horizon 5, a series historically exclusive to Xbox and PC, was heading to PS5 as part of its strategy to branch out into third-party publishing.
Last year, a report by an analyst firm claimed it sold over three million copies within just three months. Now, Virtuos Games, the studio that ported the game to PS5, has revealed official sales figures.
A page on the company’s website confirms that Forza Horizon 5 surpassed five million sales on PS5, making it one of the platform’s best-selling games in 2025. Not bad at all for a port of a nearly five-year-old game.
The page also reveals that Virtuous created “roughly 90%” of the game’s car models under its Glass Egg, along with environmental assets, vehicle animations and additional visual effects.
Additionally, the studio ported Forza Horizon 4 to Xbox Series X|S. This led to Virtuous developing a performance mode for the enhanced version, allowing players to switch between 4K at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps.
Considering its predecessor’s phenomenal sales performance on PS5, it seems inevitable that Forza Horizon 6 will be a massive hit on Sony’s console. Unfortunately, however, PlayStation players will have to wait longer for the sequel.
