It’s back to basics for this week’s Gran Turismo 7 ranked online Sport Mode Daily Races, as the randomised rain from last time out is replaced by sunny skies.
There’s a mix of classic Japanese sportscars around a tiny venue and the regular Gr.4 and Gr.3 races around two belting real-world locations.
Sport Mode offers ranked online racing where you will be placed within races based on your previous performances. Race clean, improve your Safety Rating, score great results and boost your Driver Rating.
RACE A
Why brown loafers?
Race A features the original Honda NSX Type R, the first from the manufacturer to feature the now seminal sporting moniker.
It’s now a trope in automotive circles, but I cannot resist watching Ayrton Senna heeling-and-toeing one around Suzuka in the early ’90s in comfortable shoes. You’ve likely seen it before but just watch it again.
Anyway, that’s the context, this is the virtual race, around the diminutive Kyoto Driving Park Miyabi.
Turns 5, 6 and 7 come at the end of the lap, and this is the trickiest element. You can put two wheels over the kerbs and slightly on the grass here, but this car is skittish. You must be extremely smooth with your inputs, one awkward bounce can see you half-spin into the pitlane.
How do we know that? Erm…
Recommended car: Honda NSX Type R ’92 (Used Cars, 402,700 Credits or free rental)
Race B
Right, back to one of the staples within a Gran Turismo 7 diet – Suzuka, Gr.4.
That flowing first sector requires a car that has a razor-sharp turn-in, so provided you can handle it, the Alfa Romeo 4C could be the quickest vehicle. But over five laps, you may want something a little more stable, so we’d plump for the Silvia spec-R Aero.
Also, side-exit exhaust pipes.
There’s no strategy here other than practice repeatedly to grab a quick qualifying time and then in the race be patient – the grass and gravel run-offs here are punishing, so be precise and await your turn.
Recommended car: Silvia spec-R Aero (S15) Touring Car Gr.4 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits or free rental)
Race C
Road Atlanta has been in Gran Turismo 7 now for five months, yet somehow it still feels relatively fresh.
Seeing the detailed Polyphony Digital laser scan of the Georgian venue with a Gran Turismo title for the first time still knocks out socks off.
Get in the slipstream down the back straight and dive down the inside of your rivals into 10A, there’s a little better feeling in sim racing.
You can, of course, use the Nissan GT-R in this race which has become the preeminent choice in Gr.3, but this time, we’re plumping for the Genesis X GR3. It’s stable, a little dull, and the quickest option here. Racing Hards or Mediums – your call, but you must use both.
Recommended car: Genesis X GR3 ‘18 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free rental)
Lap Time Challenge
This fortnight’s Lap Time Challenge features the Radical SR3, some early up-shifts and the Gardens version of Dragon Trail
A new Lap Time Challenge will become available on the 27th of April at 7 am GMT.
Recommended car: Radical SR3 SL ’13 (Brand Central, 126,500 Credits or free car rental)
