The Race of the Season returns this Sunday (19th June 2022) for the third time since its introduction back at the beginning of the year. Utilizing the rFactor 2 Competition System, rFactor 2 players have qualified over the last five weeks for the chance to participate in the main show. A top split with up to 30 drivers will be broadcasted live on Traxion.GG.
This season, the racers will take the new IndyCar IR18 around the newly-released Laguna Seca venue. The main event will be a timed race at 45 minutes in length with one pit stop required to complete the event. The field will line up how they qualified through the competition system. The Top 3 finishers will again receive a trophy.
This is only the third iteration of this event which has utilized the rFactor 2 Competition System to set the grid. Approximately 75 rFactor 2 drivers attempted to put down a fast enough lap to qualify for the top broadcasted split.
As it turns out, some of the more recognizable names on the rFactor 2 platform have tried out and have qualified well, such as Darius Andrei, who is currently competing in Formula Challenge. Also qualified in the Top 30 is Traxion.GG’s own Ross McGregor! Way to go, Ross!
Anyone with a valid copy of rFactor 2 can try out for these races, and both Ross and I gave it our best efforts over the last month. Ross should make the Top Split broadcast with a qualifying time that put him 26th on the board.
I’ll have to hope for a bunch of no-shows as I only managed the 44th best time. We won’t know the up-to-30 driver field until the races launch and the drivers can register for the race.
In the first Race of the Season, the competitors took the BMW M4 GT3 to the new Daytona International Speedway and the event was won by Turkka Häkkinen. The second Race of the Season saw the top racers take on the Ligier 320 LMP3 at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, and that one was won by Tomasz Wach.
Tune in to the main event on Sunday 19th June at 9:00 p.m. CEST / 8:00 p.m. BST / 3:00 p.m. ET. The action, once again, will be LIVE on Traxion.GG’s YouTube channel.
