A new Rallysimfans update has seen seven new stages added to Richard Burns Rally over the weekend,

The new tests include Wythop II, a reverse-direction version of the real-world Wythop stage introduced in the mod’s massive January update. Used in both the RAC and Malcolm Wilson rallies, Wythop is a classic British gravel stage featuring car-hugging cambers and challenging blind corners.

Oskola is a highlight of the new RSF update

The highlight of the new update is perhaps the addition of three high-speed Finnish stages, however, with author M. Virtanen creating authentic versions of Oskola, Toikkala and Sirkkamäki, all of which are based on real-world Rally Finland/1000 Lakes Rally locations.

Two gravel Brazilian stages also make an appearance (Passauna I & II) with a chicane-heavy French asphalt stage (Cote de Cauterets Slalom) completing the lineup.

The RBRHUD plugin gets some attention too, with emissive masks added to several cars to provide more realistic cockpit instrument lighting. A new internal display has also been implemented in the game’s latest Rally2 car, the Toyota GR Yaris (which works exceedingly well in the Traxion Toyota).

Many more tweaks, optimisations and bug fixes have also been added in version 1.54.0 of RSF, with the full changelog listed below. To download the free new update, head to the Rallysimfans website for more information.

Rallysimfans installer v1.54.0 changelog

New:

  • NGP7 7.5.779 and PaceNote 2.0.779 plugins by WorkerBee. See below for more details.
  • New: RBRHUD 0.3.4.18 plugin by Towerbrah. See below for more details.
  • New: OpenRBRVR 2.0.4 by Detegr/TorttuP. See below for more details.
  • New: OpenRBRTriples 0.3.1 by Detegr/TorttuP. See below for more details.
  • New: RBR DirectX modded by Towerbrah to use DX shader model 3.0 version (originally RBR uses very old shader model 1.0). This gives more possibilities to improve RBR graphics quality and improves FPS. Please read below for more details about RBRHUD updates.
  • New: Vulkan dxvk graphics driver updated to a new version. This new version should improve Vulkan FPS in some NVidia and AMD gpu graphics cards. Make sure you have the latest NVidia/AMD GPU drivers installed. See github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/wiki for more details.
  • New: VNM Direct Drive Xtreme wheelbase is now supported with RSFLauncher.Controls.AdjustSteeringWheelRangePerCar feature. Big thanks to VNM Simulation (www.vnmsimulation.com) for their cooperation while implementing this new support and Wykster for beta testing VNM wheelbase in RBR.

Improved:

  • RSFLauncher.Controls.AdjustSteeringWheelRangePerCar feature now knows how to restore the default steering wheel rotation range when RBR is closed. This works with SimuCube, VNM, Moza, Simagic, Asetek and MMOS wheelbases.
  • Improved: New carID.PNG screenshot filename option in RSFLauncher.Screen&Graphics.Screenshot.
  • Improved: New HD quality “broken windshield” textures (by AleksiP). We recommend you to tick this option in the Rallysimfans Installer app if this is not selected by default.
  • Improved: Minor RBRControls plugin compatibility tweaks.
  • Improved: RSFLauncher dashboard style improvements when setting up a default RBR profile in a new installation. RBR digidash, RBR race clock in the top left corner, GaugerPlugin and RBRCountdown are automatically disabled if RBRHUD plugin is installed because RBRHUD does the same better and a lot more.
  • In an existing RSF installation we highly recommend you to disable RBR digidash and RBR race clock options in RSFLauncher.Screen&Graphics page and disable GaugerPlugin and RBRCountdown plugins in RSFLauncher.Plugins page. RBRHUD plugin does those same things better and more efficiently.

Fixed:

  • RBR digidash was sometimes shown even when a digidash was disabled in RSFLauncher options.
  • Fixed: Under certain conditions a stage specific custom RBR marshal animation scripts and textures didn’t work.
  • Other tweaks and bug fixes here and there as usual.

RBRHUD 0.3.4.18 plugin by Towerbrah:

  • Added supported for emissive masks.
  • Added controllable windscreen opacity (credits: Detegr/TorttuP).
  • Added support for exporting and importing delta times. You can share times with your friends and let them try to beat your best times. Remember that optionally you can share GhostCars recording files also to let others to chase your ghost pacecar.
  • Fixed fog affecting car interior in the internal cameras.
  • Fixed car texture reloading (F5 key) not working on certain graphic modes. Skin authors love this feature because live preview of a new skin while a car is on stage has never been this easy.
  • New features for render objects. Texture objects with no telemetry, combining of conditional effects.
  • Updated overlay element selection menu and folder structure.
  • Crash fix on game launch.
  • New telemetry and telemetry fixes.

RBRHUD Asset updates:

  • Added Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 HUD (by RSWats)
  • Added emissive masks to the following cars: C3_r5, Citroen_C3_WRC17, ESCORT_COSWORTH_GRA, Fiesta_rally3, HONDA_Civic_R3, PORSCHE911_SCRS_GrpB, PORSCHE_GT3_RGT, TOYOTA_CELICA_TA64_GrpB, Volvo242LE, bmw_m3_e36, ds3_WRC, fabia_rs_rally2, favorit, fiesta_rally2_23, i20_rally2, impreza95, impreza_2003_kazhol, p306maxi, porsche_911sc, yaris_rally2, vw_golf_86, BMW_M1, AstonMartin_Vantage_RGT.
  • New MoTeC inspired overlay element.
  • Small fixes and tweaks to existing overlay elements.
  • Special thanks to RSWats, Mint Lynx, XMALMX, AleksiP for testing and contributing emissive masks for the cars.

NGP7 7.5.779 2025-03-05 plugin by WorkerBee:

  • fixed FFB issues with some wheels. Some wheelbases should not need the FFB Compatibility mode registry edit anymore, at least Moza!
  • pause physics when main game loop fails to execute. Should fix the very rare “freeze+cut penalty” issues some people have been experiencing.
  • updated FMOD to version 2.03.06.
  • ARM 64-bit FMOD integration.
  • ARM 64-bit telemetry recorder (also used by PaceNote plugin 2.x).

PaceNote 2.0.779 2025-03-05 plugin by WorkerBee:

  • updated to NGP revision 779.

OpenRBRVR 2.0.4 by Detegr/TorttuP:

  • Fix a bug in DXVK that caused BTB stages to render black.
  • Fix a bug where menuScene = false did not work properly.
  • Update DXVK version to 2.6. This should fix issues where the game failed to start with new AMD GPUs.
  • Add support for OpenXR-Layer-OBSMirror (https://github.com/Jabbah/OpenXR-Layer-OBSMirror).
  • Improve compatibility with other plugins doing shader modifications.
  • Fix ‘Online rally’ menu disappearing for some users.

OpenRBRTriples 0.3.1 by Detegr/TorttuP:

  • Fix F6 menu receiving inputs even if it wasn’t open. This caused all kinds of bugs with it.
  • Fix FoV adjustment not taking z-near value into account. This might have caused distortion to the side monitor(s).
  • Implement adjustable horizon to allow configuring screens for different eye height. The horizon adjustment is per-camera and per-car.

Launcher carparts updated by AleksiP:

  • Renault Twingo R1 roof scoop carpart. (thanks Dancho)
  • Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 and Ford Fiesta Rally2_23 carparts. (thanks Martin Ljubic for LED headlights of the Skoda)

New maps:

  •  533 Wythop II (by Edd Hartley). The previous release had a wonderful Wythop stage and double Wythop means double fun. This is the reverse version of Wythop.
  •  544 Oskola 2023 (by M. Virtanen). One of the best roads in the country, called the Ouninpohja of Eastern Finland. M Virtanen has been busy and now he releases not just one but three new gravel stages in Finland. The grand theme is the legendary history of “Rally of The 1000 Lakes” (nowadays Rally Finland). Pick an old car and you can live those legendary times in RBR. High speed jumps, blind corners and a loose gravel surface makes everyone humble.
  •  545 Toikkala (by M. Virtanen). A classic from the 1000 Lakes Rally in the 80’s and 90’s. If you survive this one without crashes on the first try you deserve a medal.
  •  550 Sirkkamäki (by M. Virtanen). A classic from the 1000 Lakes Rally in the 70’s and 80’s.
  •  553 & 554 Passauna I & II (by NaroGugul). NaroGugul really knows how to push the boundaries of RBR graphics engine and Blender tools. Passauna and Passauna II are beautiful gravel stages in the Brazilian countryside and really fun to drive.
  •  556 Cote de Cauterets Slalom (by MonkeyZy). We already have 555 Cote de Cauterets stage as a traditional rally stage with pacenotes. MonkeyZy created this interesting slalom version where we don’t have pacenotes. Hillclimb slalom version has small changes to make it more safe stage to be driven without a co-driver. You know how to use a handbrake? This stage is for you. Great stage to practice tarmac driving and chicanes.

Updated maps:

  •  501 Myhinpää 2023 (by M. Virtanen). Guardrail, shadow, weather and other improvements here and there.
  •  534 & 535 Ubunapa Kabula I and II. Updated. Original by Esko Kytömäki/TangoTeam (conversion by PeterB).  Improved everything.
  •  549 Makkola (by M. Virtanen. Replaces the BTB version of the same map). Improved everything. Watch out for anti-cutting blocks!
  •  555 Cote de Cauterets (by MonkeyZy. A complete re-made from scratch and replaces the BTB version of the same map). Improved everything.
  •  557 & 558 Erken I & II. Original by Mikael ‘Jacken’ Jakobsson (conversion by PeterB). Improved everything.
  •  559 Karagita Ruma. Original by Marko Kytömäki/TangoTeam (conversion by PeterB). Improved everything.
  •  560 Nechánice – Přešín by izzy.gnr (conversion by hrczka). Improved everything.

Updated weather settings in various BTB conversion stages:

  • Some stages had a bad visibility in heavy fog and night weathers or snow stages had weird colors. PeterB updated and fixed many of those weather settings.
