New drag racing NHRA game due later this year

Fans of drag racing, and specifically the National Hot Rod Association-sanctioned events, will soon be able to play a brand new game, arriving later in 2022.

The NHRA is the USA and Canada’s official drag racing governing body and hosts several events and championships each year. Its headline event is the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, run across several vehicle classes including Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Mod and Super Modified.

For reference, a Top Fuel drag vehicle can run a quarter-mile in just 3.64 seconds at 337 mph. That was the 2021 season record, set by Brittany Force’s Monster Energy Top Fuel dragster.

The game will be coming to PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch “later this year” and the five classes we mentioned above will be included alongside real-world drivers and sponsors.

The will be single-player and multiply components, although, at this early stages, specifics are not yet known.

It will be published by GameMill Entertainment – also known for the Street Outlaws drag racing titles created by Team6 Games – and it’s said to include “physics-based gameplay for simulated real-world depth and speed.”

“We’re incredibly excited about how well the game has been coming together on bringing the authentic NHRA experience to the fans,” said Steve Williams, VP of Marketing and Communications, GameMill Entertainment.

All that has been released alongside the preliminary information has been a very short clip of a stationary Top Fuel car, so for now, enjoy the embedded NHRA action. We’ll keep you up to date as and when further information is available.
