The second-ever official NASCAR game for the Nintendo Switch is now available, as NASCAR Rivals is now available.
The follow-up to last year’s NASCAR Heat Ultimate Edition+ is created by the embattled Motorsport Games and is the second content of note this month by the Miami-headquartered developer to feature the current Cup Series roster following a NASCAR 21: Ignition update. Rivals, however, is not based on that game’s technology.
27 tracks will feature, every location that’s included in the real-world points-paying season, alongside the drivers, teams and liveries. This means Atlanta Motor Speedway and World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway will be new to portable players.
The title is only available for the hybrid console and is said to include enhanced visuals in comparison to 2021’s release, plus the Next Gen car models. A paint booth allows for design customisation. Alongside the staple career mode, 20 challenges are available where players must complete set-up scenarios.
Split screen and online multiplayer are included. The latter features 16-player lobbies, but this is set to expand with a post-release update. Likewise, the addition of local multiplayer via Bluetooth, which was thought to be included at launch, will now be arriving later.
“We’re excited for our fans to truly immerse themselves in what it means to be a NASCAR champion while allowing them to embrace their inner rival wherever and whenever,” said Jay Pennell, Brand Manager, NASCAR, at Motorsport Games.
We’ll have a hands-on verdict very soon of this latest Switch racing game, which launches ahead of the now-delayed NASCAR Heat 5 2022 Cup Series DLC.
