Following a leak earlier this week on Steam, it’s true – the first Forza Horizon 5 expansion will indeed be Hot Wheels themed.
The new addition was formally unveiled during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022, and will feature the inimitable giant orange plastic tracks, weaving through the rocky, snowy and lava-filled Mexican environment.
A new Hot Wheels world and story
Horizon Hot Wheels Park will feature over 200km of orange track, with areas that will include magnets, ice, water flumes and rumble tracks. It all sounds more than a little reminiscent of Hot Wheels Unleashed…
There will be four new distinct map areas – or ‘biomes’ in Forza Horizon parlance: Giant’s Canyon, Ice Cauldron, Forest Falls and Horizon Nexus.
To go alongside this is a new five-part Horizon Story alongside the expected Accolades, Bonus Boards, Floating Piñata collectables, PR Stunts and new Hot Wheels Seasonal Events within upcoming Festival Playlists.
Fresh cars
Alongside the new Hot Wheels tracks comes 10 new cars. From the diecast perspective are the 2000 Hot Wheels Deora II and 2013 Hot Wheels Baja Bone Shaker, now in a matching size to the other real-world cars in the game.
It will also include new road-going vehicles too, over and above the Car Pass. This will include the 2021 Hennessey Venom F5 hypercar and the 2006 Mosler MT900 GT3.
As you play through the expansion, you will work your way up through car classes before reaching the pinnacle: X Class.
Share your Hot Wheels creations
Building upon the in-game EventLab functionality, that allowed players to create their own challenges, the Hot Wheels Creation Kit comes with the expansion and allows the creation of unique tracks, from 80 pieces. These can then be shared amongst the Forza Horizon 5 community.
Looking at the brief reveal trailer, the scope looks to be significantly larger than the previous Hot Wheels expansion in Forza Horizon 3 – longevity of its appeal will be key after 2017’s addition fell a little flat after the opening few minutes.
We hope to have some hands-on time with Forza Horizon 5: Hot Wheels upon its launch. Let us know in the comments below your initial impressions.
