*Fair warning, this article includes mild Forza Horizon 5 spoilers*
Forza Horizon 5 is here, and our full in-depth review is available to read and watch, so that also means it’s time to get under the hood and start looking for all the secrets within Playground Games’ latest open-world racing game.
There are 14 hidden cars within the game, all of them of ‘legendary’ status – here’s how to find them.
What is a Barn Find?
A Barn Find is a hidden vehicle located in a secret building that is not immediately obvious. A rough location is highlighted on the in-game map via a large purple circle, with each clue appearing after each subsequent vehicle is found.
The purple clue circle, however, does not reveal the precise location of the building, so it’s up to you to drive around the area and find the barn.
Each barn building has white exterior walls and a wooden double-door at the front. As you approach the right building, a cutscene will be triggered featuring your character opening the doors – signifying you’re in the right place.
What happens once I’ve discovered a Barn Find?
Once you have found a vehicle, the location changes into a Gift Drop location, where you can send or receive cars for or from other online players.
In the meantime, each of the barn finds goes through a period of restoration. During this time, you continue to play other levels, until you receive a notification that the car is ready to collect.
Then, visit the Autoshow from the pause menu, choose the Barn Finds tab, and tap ‘A’ on your new vehicle to add it to your collection. If you are impatient, you can visit this same menu before restoration is finished, and pay for access early, but that fee (in credits) is usually astronomical.
Don’t forget Drone Mode
In this guide, we are mainly talking as if we have driven around in circles to find each barn – and that is a perfectly legitimate method.
However, you can also enter drone mode, fly about and should you see a hidden barn, it will update your map with the exact location, and you can then rock up in a car with some swagger and collect your merchandise with relative ease.
How many Barn Finds are there in Forza Horizon 5?
There are 14 Barn Finds to find, but there’s also an additional 15th as part of a story mission that you cannot miss, which is why upon collecting all the Barn Finds, the loading screen stat will say 15/14 collected. Strange.
Better Than New achievement guide
Collecting all the Barn Finds will net you the Better Than New Achievement too, worth 20 Gamerscore. Follow our guide to each of the Barn Finds below, and this pop.
Volkswagen Beetle Forza Edition 1963
This isn’t technically one of the ‘official’ Barn Finds as, if you play through the campaign, you literally cannot miss it.
The Vocho story missions are presented to you right at the start of the game, after the introduction. In the very first of these levels, entitled ‘The Vocho’, you are tasked with driving to a storage location – read, barn – and find the illusive Vocho, ore as you may know it, Volkswagen Beetle. You are now up and running and, due to a quirk of the game, have collected the 15th Barn Find first.
Jaguar Sport XJR-15 1991
This is the first of the really hidden vehicles, but this too is found during a story mission. In the ‘Jungle Expedition’ event, a new type of mission structure for Forza Horizon 5, you will drive to an abandoned airfield with Ramiro.
Here you will be tasked to find several items of pilot equipment and a hidden car around an abandoned airport, south-west of the map.
There are several hangars in the environment. Simply driving into the first box you see, right in front of you, and pick-up the Last Barn Find Notes, and then visit all the hangars. The ‘big cat’ is located at the bottom of the pre-defined area.
We recommend you play this level naturally and explore the area as it will teach you how the rest of the exhibitions will play out later in the story.
GMC Jimmy 1970
Right, now we are cooking on gas, as this is a true hidden Barn Find – as is every other vehicle on this list.
To collect this off-roader, look to the south of the map, below Cordillera and near the main road that runs along the bottom of the area.
The exact location is in amongst the trees and rivers passing through, to the left (from above) of a small road that has two nearly 90-degree corners.
That’s the second ‘official’ Barn Find completed and the first that wasn’t handed to you on a plate. Well done.
Ford Racing Escort MK1 1967
Next up is the classic Ford, loosely based upon the Escort that successfully competed on the London-Mexico Rally. You’ll have to go climbing for this one, as it’s on the side of the giant La Gran Caldera volcanic formation.
On a tight hairpin turn, there’s a subtle dirt track running off the side. If you came too quick into the corner and overshot it, you could find this barn.
Follow the gravel path for a few yards, and hey presto, a hidden Escort shall become yours.
Chevrolet Corvette 1953
You’re hopefully on a roll now, so next up is a lovely classic Corvette. To find it, look on the map for Tierra Próspera and the highway just below it.
The car is located to the right of the river that intersects this highway, but above the small, winding, road below it. You need to be approaching across the field and there isn’t a visible path towards it.
Enter the field from the small road south of the location or from the north, by smashing through the highway barrier, and just like magic, there’s your stylish sports car.
#1 T100 Toyota Baja 1993
Unlike most Barn Finds in Forza Horizon 5, there isn’t a hidden dirt path to this one.
At the bottom left of the map, there are two crop circles. This car is located on the edge to the one on the right, just below the sign for De Otro Mundo. If you’re having difficulty finding it, simply drive a loop around the perimeter and soon enough, your barn shall appear.
BMW 2002 Turbo 1973
This is a straightforward one, thankfully. Running across the top of the map is a main road. It’s big, fast and covered in asphalt.
Around the middle of the map is the Fuera Del Camino Trail dirt race event, and this is where the barn is. Simple.
You will see a small building, with a motorcycle parked on a dirt entrance. Drive in here, go over a small dip and your classic BMW awaits.
Renault 4L Export 1968
Next up, a small, French, economy car that revolutionised personal transportation around the world. Often, the go-to rival that’s heavily revered is the Citroën 2CV, but more than twice the number of 4s hit the roads.
Anyway, enough of the history lesson. To find this compact gem, you must head to the top left corner of the map and find the ‘Bypass’ Speed Trap. Follow the road round, heading north, and just after a long righthander, there’s a dirt road entrance.
It’s hidden though, so watch out, as a barrier blocks your path. Simply smash through this, head over a gravel rise and ta-dah, there’s the barn.
Porsche 911 Carrera RS 1973
One of the trickier Barn Finds to unearth, as while there’s a dirt path leading to it, said route is long and through a wooded area with an obfuscated right turn – it’s very easy to think that you’re going the wrong way.
Persevere, though and right in the depth of the forest on the side of the hill is the elusive barn with a collectable Porsche inside.
Find the snaking road heading uphill from the Los Arobles Speed Trap and then after the long sweeping right corner, before the 90-degree left turn, there will be the entrance to the dirt track. Eyes peeled.
Ford Mustang GT 2+2 Fastback 1968
This Ford is a similar spec to the one in the Steve McQueen film Bullitt, except the game can say that for licencing reasons, so jovially ‘forgets’ the name of the movie – clever.
To add it to your collection, you need to be north-east of Guanajuato City and looking for two winding roads parallel to each other. In-between is this car.
When looking from above, the road on the right will have a small gravel road snaking off to the side. This is your que to drive down it and collect your loot.
Ferrari F40 Competizione 1989
This one is a must-collect. West of Maya and north of Pantano De La Selva is a Ferrari F40 – not just any F40, either, but a Competizione which was built to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Deep within a wetlands area, you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled for another dirt track lined with fencing in amongst the trees. The barn door faces north, so you’ll need to be facing south and hunt from the top-down, in-between two corners on the nearby road.
Ford F-100 1956
Next up, a classic pick-up truck and where better to find one than in a Mexican barn?
This is just a little bit east of the El Estadio Horizon, sat in a field to the left of a drift event. The barn door of west-facing, so approach from the left-side when looking top-down on the map.
There’s a series of muddy tracks that form a grid within some fields. Explore these and aim for roughly the middle of the area enclosed by the surrounding roads. The barn is behind some small trees, but there’s also a bright blue shed next to it that sticks out like a sore thumb.
Dodge Viper GTS ACR 1999
A rip-snorter of a muscle car, the Dodge Viper has a fearsome reputation, and someone looks to have been tuning this one as a drag-strip car, before abandoning ship.
This one is the in the jungle, right where the ‘Gran Pantano’ sign is on the map. Once again, there is a small gravel road leading off the asphalt, this time with a fence on either side to mark your route to another legendary car unlock.
Approach this face north-west, and you’ll be set – simply drive up the road, arrive at the barn and pick up a snake.
Dodge Dart Hemi Super Stock 1968
Another Dodge, an older muscle car this time, and looking like something Vin Diesel would drive. It’s located in the north-east area of the map, just inwards of the beach and below The Eliminator.
There’s a horizontal road with a slight king in the middle of it. Right on that curve is a grassy driveway, which is what you need to drive down. Follow the patch, net the car.
Ferrari 250 GTO
The pièce de résistance of the Barn Finds, and the final one to check off, this invaluable Ferrari is nestled just below the Teotihuacan marker, to the right of a runway.
You’re looking for a small gravel road leading off the asphalt in-between some trees. Blink and you’ll miss it. But it’s there alright, and once it’s popped into your collection, all 15 out of 14 Barn Finds will be yours.
Forza Horizon 5 Treasure Map
Should all this sound like hard work, you can purchase the Treasure Map for £2.49/$2.99. That’s real money, not in-game credits, just in case that wasn’t obvious. It will reveal the Barn Finds on the map, alongside the Bonus Boards. Once purchased, open the map and select ‘Active Treasure Map’.
