Is there anything more ‘Kojima’ than adding a superfluous racing game element to the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding?

The visionary game director’s opus to the afterlife now features a driving minigame, where you must race and set online leaderboard time trials against fellow competitors.

Race select in Death Stranding

Riding, or driving, the futuristic fictional vehicles as Norman Reedus’ Sam Porter Bridges character, there looks to be a dedicated circuit with a series of layouts and at least three different rides to choose from – Reverse Trike (bike), Roadster (car) and Truck.

As with the rest of the game, the visuals provided by Guerrilla Games’ Decima game engine are stunning – but the platform isn’t known for vehicle handling prowess. The minecarts in Until Dawn: Rush of Blood or the mechs in RIGS are probably the closest to vehicles so far.

We will have to wait to go hands-on, and most likely persevere through 20 hours of courier simulator first before this unlocks. Trust us when we say this is the last game we thought we would ever write about on Traxion.GG.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut releases on PS5 24th September 2021.
