Version 1.6. This could be the zenith of Automobilista 2. When does it arrive? Nobody knows, but what is confirmed is the release of further details within September.

Preceding the full run-down of expected changes and DLC, three more changes have been teased by developer Reiza Studios.

AI racing changes

According to the team, revised AI performance has been a priority. A video of Formula Ultimate Gen 2s driving around Monza appears to show the computer-controlled rivals dicing naturalistically and racing fair.

“Every aspect of their performance has been more finely tuned relative to player capabilities,” claims Reiza.

“This applies not only to overall lap times but the top speeds they can reach and corner, as well as the rates at which they can accelerate and brake.”

Generally, the Brazilian studio highlights an increase in consistency across the (many) different vehicle types. The footage showcases an AI-controlled car battling the driver, overtaking and defending, in particular between ~five and seven minutes through.

How it works in different conditions and circuits will be tested come release. Also note a change to the HUD, with the track map in this example showcasing the full venue.

    Weather updates

In May, it was announced that there would be changes to the racing line, which for inclement conditions driving should mean a greater emphasis on using a ‘wet’ route. Again, a video released by the creation team showcases a classic McLaren driving at Spa, utilising wider pathways to stay in control.

Part of the changes to the weather system now also include visible contrail vertices when driving a car with a large rear wing during cold and humid conditions (main article image).

Previously discussed v1.6 changes also include updated windscreen wiper effects, greater tyre and engine smoke, revised hybrid implementation, visible tyre wear plus more content thanks to new licencing agreements and the IMSA deal.

There are expected to be two paid-for content packs, one for IMSA tracks (with Road Atlanta and Sebring anticipated) and one for endurance racing-themed cars – the current Alpine A424 part of the expanded roster.
