On 8th July, the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) is set to take on their Boston Major up in Massachusetts in the United States. While Rocket League esports aren’t normally a thing we touch upon here at Traxion.GG (although we love their content updates), there is a motorsports connection with one of the competing teams.
The Gen.G Tigers, an esports organization that has multiple competitive teams for all sorts of esports competitions that are stationed all around the world with headquarters in Santa Monica/Los Angeles, California, Shanghai, China and Seoul, Korea, will be competing in Boston’s RLCS Major.
Already paired up with Mobil 1 as one of their sponsors, Gen.G is also taking NASCAR along for the ride to bring a watch party for the event right outside the arena where the Major is taking place. The Pit Stop will be a public party from noon to 5:00 pm ET on Saturday, 8th July during the Boston Major. After 8 pm ET, it becomes a private event.
While NASCAR activation at a Rocket League event is great, and hopefully also possibly the catalyst that Psyonix needs to re-release the NASCAR Fan Pass content with updated 2023 content, it goes beyond this upcoming weekend with more planned crossovers between the Gen.G team and NASCAR.
Per the announcement, competitors on Gen.G will be invited to visit NASCAR events this season in return, even more of a cross-pollination of real-world motorsports and the likes of esports and video games. It’s actually already somewhat started, maybe not officially (or maybe it has), but Gen.G’s Demar “Dazerin” Williams was in Chicago this past weekend hanging with Jenson Button.
Mobil 1 is a Stewart-Haas Racing partner with NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick and whenever Button comes to moonlight. There are more expected activations planned during the remainder of the season, but those haven’t yet been announced. Boston’s closest racetrack is New Hampshire and funny enough, next weekend, NASCAR will be in town…
As NASCAR continues to try and expand its reach to a younger demographic, while I might not know who any of these professional Rocket League pros are, maybe some of the kids in the garage or grandstands might, and that could lead to building that base up and more younger fans looking to interact with the motorsport.
This could also, possibly, be a hint for 2024 and the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series, with a possible new team joining the ranks. That’s just speculation by me, but it comes from the knowledge of seeing teams like the Pittsburgh Knights and Kansas City Pioneers being included in this season’s lineup of teams.
It seems like a win-win for all parties involved. Speaking of parties, if you’re in the Boston area, be sure to check it out. The Major takes place at the Agganis Arena in Boston, Massachusetts from the 6th to the 9th of July.
