Another week, another set of ranked online events within Gran Turismo 7. Three Daily Races are flanked by a Lap Time Challenge this week, with the Manufacturer Series and Nations Cup on hiatus for now.
For those who enjoy a spot of vehicle tuning, Race A sees a 500 PP event in any road car that matches that output, but this is also a race where Driver and Safety Rating are not affected. Meanwhile, Races B and C return to the fixed set-up Gr.4 and Gr.3 formula.
For GT7 newbies, the Sport mode – where you can find the Daily Races – unlocks after completing Café Menu Book nine.
RACE A
With Race A allowing tuning, the list of cars populating the online leaderboard is extraordinarily varied. The venue is the relatively fresh Watkins Glen, the New York venue added in the recent 1.17 update.
In this case, it’s the Short Course layout, excluding The Boot. With a 500PP limit and a relatively compact layout, it seems like a tune hot hatchback like a Toyota Yaris or Lancia Delta Integrale are solid options alongside the Mazda Atenza Sedan XD L Package.
However, if you fancy being a cheeky little scamp, the Mini-Cooper ‘S’ from 1965 is a rapid option.
Visit GT Auto and add a wide body plus rear wing. Tweak the livery and wheel style while you’re at it, although these won’t add any performance.
Pushing it to the 500PP limit will be cost intense, as it may require a racing transmission, racing brake kit, and serious engine upgrades. Don’t forget, we have an extensive front-wheel-drive set-up guide, and making use of all the settings available will help with this Mini.
The one hang-up with the Mini is that it may not be in the Used Car dealership if you don’t already have it, in which case reverse to the aforementioned Toyota and Mazda.
Recommended car: Mini-Cooper ‘S’ 65 (Used Car Dealership – 38,000 Credits)
Race B
If you’re after a short, but equally competitive, event then may I introduce you to Race B. Using the Gr.4 class of car, that means at present the Subaru WRX is the easy option, with the leaderboard times flooded with the boxer-engined saloon.
Its all-wheel-drive makes for reassuring handling, the key to the middle sector of the Interlagos circuit used here.
Recommended car: Car: Subaru WRX Gr.4 (350,000 Credits or free rental)
Race C
Unlike Gr.4, where the Subaru is the default, in the quicker GT3-aping Gr.3 the field is much more varied. In fact, we could easily recommend at least eight different cars in this class to use here and still be competitive.
Using the Nürburgring Grand Prix layout, you must put in a clean qualifying lap and then monster the kerbs at the penultimate corner – the NGK-Schikane. Using as much as you can without receiving a costly car reset is one defining factor to a quick lap here.
The Chevrolet Corvette and Genesis will be quick here, but we like the way the Porsche handles this crucial segment, so that’s our recommended car for now.
Recommended car: Car: Porsche 911 RSR (911) ’17 Gr.3 (450,000 Credits or free rental)
