World of Outlaws Dirt Racing 24 trailer soon, new challenge mode detailed

Previously announced, details about the latest ‘Outlaw Challenge’ mode for the upcoming World of Outlaws: Dirt Racing 24 have been published.

The official game of the American championship – a sequel to the 2022 original – will feature an enhanced career mode, a 2024-season roster update and what are being touted as a ‘visual upgrade’ plus a ‘more realistic’ driving experience.

In this new mode, you will be taking on Donny Schatz. The 307-time race winner will guide you through – in the menus at least, if perhaps not a rendered NPC – a series of tests. You must beat the set objectives to earn points and unlock decorative items for the paint-scheme editor.

After each event within the Outlaw Challenge area, Schatz will asses your abilities across four key criteria: finishing position, consistency, damage avoidance and sportsmanship.

Then it’s either a pass or a fail. There’s also an area where you can compare your game stats with the Tony Stewart Racing driver’s career achievements.

Late Model racer Schatz is joined by 410 driver Brandon Sheppard on the game’s cover.

Debut game trailer expected 20th August

However, until now, gameplay and even moving footage of the sequel – set for release on PlayStation and Xbox consoles – has been absent. That is expected to change with a debut trailer on Tuesday 20th August alongside pre-order bonus details.

World of Outlaws: Dirt Racing 24 has been developed by iRacing’s Minnesota outpost, Monster Games, the same team responsible for next year’s NASCAR 25 game. While the next title will switch to Unreal Engine technology for the visuals, Dirt Racing ‘24 remains on the prior Unity-derived platform.

It will be released on 17th September 2024, although Gold Edition owners receive seven days of early access.
