WATCH: A tribute to the Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder

If you watched John Munro’s Let’s Play TOCA Race Driver 3 episode with the Ultima Can-Am challenge, you’ll remember how fast and difficult those Ultimas were.

However, those were not true Can-Am vehicles, just overpowered convertible Ultima GTRs that pays tribute to the namesake. I’ll let John explain it all in his latest tribute video to the true Canadian-American Challenge Cup vehicles that were raced back in the day. TOCA Race Driver 3’s modern rendition didn’t do justice to what you’re about to witness.

Utilising Assetto Corsa, found in the Porsche Pack I DLC, the Porsche 917/30 Spyder is an available racing vehicle for a nominal fee on Steam. This mega speedster, also known widely as “the car that killed Can-Am,” could produce upwards of 1500 HP in the right conditions. She’s a fast one with little grip, and John’s all wired up to give it a go.

He’ll wheel this historical machine around Laguna Seca first to get a feel for the power in hot lap sessions. After that, John will take it to the Nordschleife to get a sense of the speed it produces in race conditions.

Come in for the history and stay for the insane speeds. You won’t want to miss this.
