Le Mans Ultimate’s online subscriptions explained

We examine Le Mans Ultimate’s paid-for RaceControl Pro and RaceControl Pro+ subscription services, detailing what they offer to sim racers.

A new era: Hands-on with Le Mans Ultimate’s LMGT3 cars

Le Mans Ultimate’s last patch in December 2024 added the much-anticipated LMGT3 cars plus Brazil’s Interlagos circuit to the sim. But alongside this paid-for DLC, Motorsport Games and Studio 397’s sim was also updated to include tweaked physics, improved VR performance and hosted servers.

As well as these, two new subscription plans were introduced, RaceControl Pro and RaceControl Pro+, offering online championships and other bonus features for paying customers, sitting alongside the game’s default, no-cost tier of multiplayer racing.

With some natural confusion surrounding the sim’s adoption of subscription services in Early Access, we have outlined everything you need to know about RaceControl Pro and RaceControl Pro+ below.

RaceControl Pro

RaceControl is LMU’s (and rFactor 2’s) proprietary multiplayer matchmaking system, helping players race against similarly skilled online opponents. Crucially, RaceControl is free to all LMU players, providing ranked daily and weekly races, with higher-tier events unlocked by improving one’s safety and driver ratings.

RaceControl Pro is an extension of this, offering additional online championship servers with more advanced incident reporting.

How do online championships work with a RaceControl subscription?

Players sign up for linked championship races and have three attempts to attain the best possible result to count towards the overall standings (not all championships will offer three chances, however).

From the outset, a championship season lasts six weeks, with plans afoot to launch longer series in future, with each new round beginning weekly on a Tuesday at 12PM UTC. Players are locked into one vehicle manufacturer for the duration of an online championship (changing is possible, but would forfeit any points accrued).

Players are divided into championships based on their driver and safety rank (as with normal daily races), with ‘sub-leagues’ based on player nationality, car choice, Steam friends and driver rating also available.

Championship points are dished out based on the Strength of Field (SoF) of players’ championship races. So, placing well against higher-ability players in one attempt should score you more championship points than dominating a lower-quality field in another.

Five or more cars are required in a class for the attempt to count towards championship points, with some series offering drop scores.

How do I file a Le Mans Ultimate online championship race incident report?

Players can choose to protest other players post-race with a RaceControl Pro subscription. This can be done by visiting the Event History tab in your main RaceControl Profile page, clicking on the player you’d like to protest’s name and filling in the accompanying form.

What driver rating do I need to participate in a Le Mans Ultimate online championship?

To participate in a Le Mans Ultimate online championship, you will need at least a B2 safety rating. Some championships have higher levels of entry, however.

RaceControl Pro+

RaceControl Pro+ not only includes all the features of RaceControl Pro but also allows access to all four of LMU’s DLC packs.

The top tier subscription also includes access to all of rFactor 2’s DLC, which includes officially licensed car content from Formula E, the BTCC and IndyCar,  as well as several laser-scanned tracks.

Access to the above content is commensurate with a valid RaceControl Pro+ subscription, so, much like with iRacing, once the subscription runs out you will no longer be able to access this content.
