Gran Turismo 7's June 1.17 update is the game's most significant so far

After the reveal yesterday, Gran Turismo 7’s 1.17 June update is now live on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, alongside the full changelog.

There are three new cars and one new track with two layout options, but there are also more events and subtle tweaks, plus arguably the most important change to date – online lobby settings changes. Here are what we think are the most important details.

Online lobby settings changes

This took long enough, didn’t it? Long the behest of the Gran Turismo 7 community, up until today you could not change any lobby settings once a room has been set up.

This was doubly frustrating as GT Sport did allow this, and all the menu options looked to be present.

But fret not, it’s now a feature once more. Breath that sigh of relief.

Gran Turismo 7 online lobby setup

In this example, I’ve set up a classic ‘Gggg’ lobby with Northern Isle Speedway and zero effort. Upon the lobby loading, I can now go to the Host Settings area and select ‘Edit Event Settings’. There I could change the track, laps, weather, car class, Balance of Performance and on and on. A large selection of options without having to close the lobby and restart.

In my testing, I did encounter an error code when switching tracks when only I was in the lobby, but let’s hope that’s because the servers were just coming back online. As for the on-track stability, we’ll do further testing over the coming days.

A refuelling speed option has also been added for lobby races.

Watkins Glen International Circuit Experience and race events

Want to learn a fresh track and earn some quick cash? Good news, because as Watkins Glen is a brand new venue – as opposed to a new layout of an existing in-game track – there is an additional Circuit Experience challenge.

This is where you learn the track sector by sector, before setting a full lap time and trying to beat bronze, silver and gold times.

There are 1,000,000 credits awarded for all gold, plus the 200,000 for bronze and the four sectors. This is a quick way of helping you towards the purchase of the news cars.

Watkins Glen International race events Gran Turismo 7

Three new races have been added in the World Circuits area, all set at Watkins Glen. The 10-lap World Touring Car 800 race is offering 200,00 credits before a clean race bonus.

Three Extra Café Menu Books with a new structure

As close as you can get to a traditional career within Gran Turismo 7, the Café Menu Books mix racing with car collecting.

The change to other Menu Books is that there are no additional races to complete. These three are purely car collection-based. Buy the cars required and the prize will unlock.

If you already own the prescribed vehicles, then all you need to do is open the Café and select each of the three new books to claim your prize. That would explain why these are categorised as ‘Extra Menus’.

Once ticked off, Luca will tell you more about the cars, plus 41 sets of new conversations have been added to this game area.

Sport Mode Time Trial now pays out

A recent addition to the Sport Mode ranked racing section has been the addition of a Time Trial, where you compete for the top times via a simple online leaderboard.

Today’s new Time Trial event also adds a feature, the paying out of rewards based on your finishing position.

Gran Turismo 7 Sport Mode Time Trial now pays rewards

Reminding us of The Crew 2‘s Live Summits, the top 3 per cent of players will receive a gold award and 2,000,000 credits. Silver nets 1,000,000 credits for being in the top five per cent of leaderboard times and a top 10 per cent nets a bronze reward of 250,000.

The main Spot Mode hub area is filling out nicely, with the World Series, Toyota Gazoo competition, Daily Races and Time Trials. Now, this menu will also display your number of Sport Mode Races, Victories, Top 5 Finishes and quantity of gold, silver and bronze Time Trial results.
