The latest ranked online playlist for Gran Turismo 7 is now live, and once again, the dominant Mazda Atenza Gr.4 will be in use.
Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, w/c 18th April: Atenz-ion please

It’s the start of a new week, and that means the Gran Turismo 7 Sport Mode Daily Races schedule has been updated with a forest roster of ranked online races.

Once again, there are three Balance of Performance themed races. That means that car tuning is prohibited. With the launch weeks now a distant memory, perhaps BoP-only races, just like GT Sport, will remain the standard format for the foreseeable.

This week also sees a new Gr.4 race, so it’s time to dust off that Mazda Atenza – or Mazda 6 outside of Japan – again, as the all-dominant saloon takes the laurels once again. We expect a BoP update sometime soon if GT Sport was anything to go by.

Without further ado, here’s what’s in store for the next seven days of competitive Gran Turismo 7 online racing and which cars we’d select for each event.

DAILY RACE A

Gran Turismo 7, Sport Mode, DAILY RACE A, Volkswagen Scirocco

Some things never change, like my love of a slow car paired with the Brand Hatch Indy Circuit within a ranked Gran Turismo race. It’s the perfect recipe for learning the Sport Mode ropes and raising your Driver Rating.

This week, everyone will be in the same Volkswagen Scirocco R ’10 – the 252bhp front-wheel-drive hot-hatch-come-coupe is sorely missed by enthusiasts after the company now produces the T-ROC convertible instead. Oh, dear.

A sub-55 second lap should secure a strong grid position, but that’s easier said than done. Quelling wheelspin coming out of Druids and Graham Hill Bend is mission-critical.

One small note: When you buy this car new, it comes equipped with Sport Hard tyres, but this race only allows Comfort Soft rubber. The Tuning Shop has them for a mere 1,600 credits.

Single car choice: Volkswagen Scirocco R ’10 (Brand Central, 51,500 Credits)

DAILY RACE B

Gran Turismo 7, Sport Mode, DAILY RACE B, Mazda Atenza Gr.4

The race utilising Gr.4 this week is Race B, as opposed to the longer Race C last week. That means relatively quicky and grippy GT4-aping racing cars, but a five-lap sprint.

The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is the venue, so in the race, keeping with the leading pack and the slipstream is the key factor to a successful race.

Racing Hard tyres and low wear means the only strategy is to go as quickly as possible each and every lap.

Top-end speed should be the defining characteristic when choosing a car, but once again the leaderboards are dominated by the Mazda Atenza Gr.4. Alternative choices are the Bugatti Veyron Gr.4 and the McLaren 650S Gr.4, but that four-wheel-drive Traxion traction of the Mazda can’t be usurped at present.

Recommended car: Mazda Atenza Gr.4 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits)

DAILY RACE C

Gran Turismo 7, Sport Mode, DAILY RACE C, Subaru WRX Gr.3

This week’s longer hopper race takes place at the Red Bull Ring, nestled in the Austrian mountains. You can use any Gr.3 car of your choosing, so long as you use the Racing Hard tyre.

Track limits on the exit of Niki Lauda Kurve and the final corner will need to be maintained – it can be all too easy to place all four wheels off the track and end up with a penalty.

With fuel usage at 10x, keeping an eye on your levels will be crucial. Do you go as quickly as possible and pit, or do you conserve throughout? Both could be viable depending on your personal preference and how much traffic is around you.

For this race, there are several car options that will be successful. The now renowned Peugeot RCZ Gr.3 will hold you in good stead, but its relative lack of straight-line speed could leave you vulnerable to something like the Hyundai Genesis Gr.3.

With all of this in mind, the Subaru WRX Gr.3 seems to strike a nice balance, and it’s this we recommend.

Recommended car: Subaru WRX Gr.3 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits)
