One of our favourite racing games of the year has come up trumps at The Game Awards 2021 – winning in three out of the four categories it was nominated in.

The big win was in the ‘Innovation in Accessibility’ category, with the suite of in-built accessibility options being a defining factor. For example, subtitle text sign and opacity can be altered on a slider, notification durations can be tweaked, moving background switched off and there’s a range of colour blindness settings.

We are still waiting for an update as to when game’s upcoming sign language option – available as American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) – will be available, however.

“This award means so much to our team, because everyone at Playground Games is committed to accessibility, so much so we made it one of our core pillars for Forza Horizon [5],” explained Mike Brown, the game’s Creative Director.

“When everyone plays, we all win.”

Forza Horizon 5 also took home the ‘Best Sports/Racing game’ gong – ahead of F1 2021, Hot Wheels Unleashed, Riders Republic – and ‘Best Audio Design’, beating the likes of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Deathloop, Returnal and Resident Evil Village.

In the Players’ Voice award, it was beaten by Halo Infinite, which it curiously won the fan vote ahead of its full release. Did you enjoy watching The Game Awards 2021? Let us know in the comments below.
