Codemasters’ annual Formula 1 series returns this year, with EA Sports F1 25 racing onto PC and consoles this summer amid an exciting and unpredictable season. Here’s everything we know so far about F1 25.
What is F1 25?
EA Sports F1 25 is the official Formula 1 video game, featuring all the drivers, teams and tracks in the 2025 championship. It’s developed by veteran racing game studio Codemasters and published by EA.
What is new in F1 25?
F1 25 introduces several noteworthy new features, including the return of the Braking Point story mode, a long-overdue My Team revamp, laser-scanned tracks and reverse layouts.
There is also a new scenario mode recreating scenes from the F1 movie starring Brad Pitt.
F1 25 release date
F1 25 will be released on 30th May 2025, with early access starting on 27th May 2025 for those who pre-order the Iconic Edition.
F1 25 will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Will F1 25 be on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One?
No, F1 25 will not be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. This marks the first time an F1 game hasn’t had a cross-generation release since the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles launched. It’s also the first time an F1 game hasn’t launched on PS4 or Xbox One in ten years.

Revamped My Team mode
My Team is one of the series’ most popular modes. Here, you manage a fictional race team, create a driver, hire a teammate and oversee everything from car development to choosing sponsors. Since it was introduced in F1 2020, My Team has remained mostly unchanged, with Codemasters prioritising redesigning the career mode in F1 24.
For the first time in five years, My Team is getting a significant revamp in F1 25. Instead of being a driver-owner, you’re now the team boss, managing a pair of drivers, which is a more accurate reflection of modern F1. This creates unique scenarios, where favouring a driver can affect their perception of you.
Elsewhere, R&D has been overhauled, with research and development split into two separate systems. After researching an upgrade, you must now build it manually. You can also choose whether to build one or two parts simultaneously. Building one part is quicker but less cost-effective, with only one driver benefiting from the upgraded car.
There’s also a new Team HQ and facility upgrade system, Fan Points that unlock new rewards and an expanded pool of driver icons you can hire, including Formula 3 drivers.
Braking Point is back
After being absent in F1 24, Braking Point is returning in F1 25. In F1 23, the story mode focused on drivers Aiden Jackson, his arch-nemesis Devon Butler and Butler’s sister Callie Mayer racing for the fictional Konnersport team in playable scenario events.
Braking Point 3 looks set to continue where F1 23 left off, with the yellow-liveried Konnersport car and Callie Mayer featuring prominently in the reveal trailer. Codemasters is teasing a “dramatic event” that will “throw the team into chaos,” as well as new difficulty options and “alternative viewpoints at key moments in the plot.”
Laser-scanned tracks and reverse layouts
Codemasters’ F1 games are often criticised for their inaccurate circuits. For F1 25, Codemasters has used LIDAR laser-scanning technology to improve the accuracy of “several” tracks and enhance trackside detail. However, which tracks have been updated is yet to be confirmed.
In a surprise reveal, F1 25 will also feature reverse layouts of existing tracks. Silverstone, Red Bull Ring and Zandvoort were shown in the trailer with cars driving in the opposite direction. Other venues with reverse layouts are yet to be confirmed. This should help make up for the lack of new circuits on the 2025 calendar.
F1 25 driver list
Naturally, F1 25 features Formula 1’s full driver lineup in the 2025 championship, including rookies Oliver Bearman and Kimi Antonelli. In My Team and Driver Career, you can also F3 drivers for the first time along with historic driver icons, esports drivers and Konnersport’s Aiden Jackson and Callie Mayer.
F1 25 will feature all 24 circuits from the 2025 Formula 1 championship. Five of these have been rebuilt with laser-scanning technology, including Bahrain, Miami, Melbourne, Suzuka and Imola.
For the first time, Silverstone, Austria, Zandvoort will also have optional reverse layouts.
Despite ditching the ancient PS4 and Xbox One consoles, F1 25 will still be powered by Codemasters’ in-house Ego engine rather than an all-new engine. It remains to be seen if it will use an updated version to take advantage of the current-gen consoles or the same engine used since F1 2015.
Will F1 25 have VR support?
Yes, F1 25 will support VR on PCs. Codemasters has confirmed support for the following headsets:
Meta Quest 2
Meta Quest 3
Oculus Rift S
HTC Cosmos
HTC Vive Pro
Valve Index
HP Reverb G2
PSVR2 compatibility for PlayStation 5 is yet to be confirmed, though no F1 games have supported Sony’s headset so far.
F1 movie scenarios
To celebrate the launch of the F1 movie in June starring Brad Pitt and directed by Joseph Kosinski , F1 25 will feature playable scenarios inspired by events in the film with the APXGP team car. These will be exclusive to the Iconic Edition, with more to be added post-launch.
