Chocobo GP announced for Nintendo Switch, releases 2022

Merging the RPG gaming sphere with the racing games of the world, Nintendo announced during their Nintendo Direct stream on Thursday that Chocobo GP would be coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2022.

The Chocobo itself is a fictional bird-like animal from the Final Fantasy series of games. It’s a big, yellow bird thing that is often used in place of what would normally be a horse. They are intelligent, but most can only say “Kweh”. Chocobo is also the name of the main character, a younger Chocobo in the spinoff series in which this racing game is based upon.

The premise of the game is to enter the racing tournament and win. If you do so, you’ll be granted a single wish, anything your heart desires. All rides will have wheels and different characters’ rides have different attributes, those being speed, grip, acceleration and drift.

There will be a story mode to race through as well as custom racing. Those custom races include regular races, but also a survival race mode and a bracket-style tournament mode that can support up to 64 players. The multiplayer in this game is either local or online with certain modes supported for either-or.

Chocobo GP offers a roster of characters from the Chocobo spin-off series that will race around courses inspired by the Chocobo series and the Final Fantasy Series. Tracks shown off in the trailers include Cid’s Test Track, Alexandria, Zozo and the Gold Saucer.

Kind of similar to other popular Nintendo racing games that have existed for years, there are power-ups throughout the tracks. These are Magic Eggs that contain Magical Magicite. The magicite will give racers magic powers to use different abilities to get an advantage over the rest.

This looks to be a fun racing entry for Final Fantasy fans out there. The game releases in 2022. Let us know your thoughts on this one in the comments below!
