MudRunner VR, which was previously available only via the Meta Quest store, has now been released on Steam.
The Saber Interactive squelch-em-up sees players donning their VR headsets to traverse vast, untamed environments in a variety of off-road vehicles, using differential locks, land anchors and winches to get from A to B.
The non-VR edition of MudRunner was released back in 2017, evolving from the original Spintires title by Oovee Game Studios. Although its gameplay was fairly simplistic – hauling logs from one location to another can be repetitive – its physics and mud simulation was without compare in the industry.
Translating these experiences to VR sounds like a winning idea then, with players able to manually operate controls in the cockpit of their chosen machine (of which eight are available), with all the benefits of Steam’s proprietary VR system.
All of the above sounds great in theory, but there’s one huge caveat for driving game and sim racing enthusiasts: MudRunner VR currently doesn’t support steering wheels.
MudRunner VR is available to purchase now from Steam, priced at £16.75 / $19.99 / 19,99€. The game is also currently available in a discounted bundle deal with the original MudRunner for £18.30 / $21.58 / 21,58€.
