We were first introduced to the Fanatec Podium Button Module Rally in the hands of Sébastien Loeb as he and co-driver Isabelle Galmiche won January 2022’s Monte Carlo Rally with this near-identical device. The German sim racing equipment manufacturer then announced details a month later and we waited…
We then tried it at the SimRacing Expo last year, and we were beside ourselves with the sensation of driving WRC Generations with something real-world WRC drives used within the Ford M-Sport Puma Rally 1.
Still though, no release date. Since then, Ott Tänak and Martin Järveoja won both Rally Sweden and Rally Chile with a Fanatec device. The sim community sat with bated breath, waiting to know when they could use the same device on their rig at home.
Now though, 31st October, Fanatec has announced that pre-orders will start shipping from 20th November 2023.
That means for €/$249.95 you’ll be able to use the same button setup as some rally legends. But, you will still need a quick release and an actual rim to turn it into a steering wheel. Now, you could buy something like a Sparco unit yourself, or a different brand, but Fanatec is also launching a handy bundle.
It includes the Podium Button Module Rally, a round Sparco R383 rim, its Podium Hub and a Wheel Side QR2 quick release system. This is priced at €/$699.95 and, thanks to a lack of paddles, is designed to work with the Fanatec shifter sold separately.
Might we also suggest pairing it with a new ClubSport DD+ wheel base and a copy of EA SPORTS WRC on PC or PlayStation 5? The perfect complement.
Great timing too, on the day some players get their hands on what we think is the best rally game in modern times.
