The Formula 1-licenced esports-focused steering wheel by Fanatec returns, as the ClubSport Formula Esports V2 is now available to order.
The are several updates for this new version, celebrating Fanatec’s official hardware partnership with F1 Esports, chief of which are magnetic shift paddles. These have been added for a crisper gearchange, more in tune with a real-world action.
They work in conjunction with the ‘Bright RGB RevLED’ strip that highlights engine revs and is adjustable via the FanaLab software.
The design features dazzling blue and yellow-backed buttons and, of course, that official F1 logo. The LED screen is also blue, displaying telemetry data, and it wouldn’t be a Fanatec wheel without a seven-way FunkySwitch to adjust settings on the fly.
Compatibility upgrades
The electronics inside have also been upgraded so that the optional €/$179.95 Fanatec Podium Advance Paddle Module is now supported.
Swap in this setup, and you then have four metal, magnetic, paddles, analogous to a real-world Formula 1 vehicle where they are used for clutch releases. You can also use the shifters as an accelerator or brake, should you wish.
This wheel ships with the QR1 Wheel-Side (ClubSport Quick Release Adapter), which means it will support an upgrade to the upcoming QR2 Wheel-Side quick-release system when it launches.
A more affordable F1 sim racing wheel
The Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheels Formula Esports V2 compliments all contemporary Fanatec wheel bases, is designed for use on PC and is PlayStation ready.
At €/$269.95, it fits into the range as a more budget-friendly F1 sim racing wheel, below the ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2.5 and minus that model’s carbon fibre facia, multi-position switches and rotary dials.
If you’ve ordered the Gran Turismo DD Pro in time for Gran Turismo 7, then this could be an ideal second wheel rim for some time on F1 2021 too.
