Your guide to Gran Turismo 7’s Daily Races, w/c 6th March: The Impossible Dream

This week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races feature the Honda RA272 at Monza, Gr.3 cars around Interlagos and a Gr.4 race at Maggiore.

In this week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races we get to drive a living legend, race Gr.3 cars at Brazil’s national circuit and figure out the perfect race strategy in a Gr.4 race at Autodromo Lago Maggiore.

The Honda RA272 is the legend in question, being the Japanese manufacturer’s first Formula 1 winner. Considering Honda began life as an auxiliary bicycle engine builder in 1948, winning an F1 race by 1965 would definitely have seemed like an impossible dream.

But Honda achieved the impossible, and racked up another 88 F1 wins as an engine supplier.

Sport Mode offers ranked online racing where you will be placed within races based on your previous performances.

Your results in Race A will not affect your Driver Rating (DR), but for this week it will affect your Sportsmanship Rating (SR), so it’s best to err on the side of caution and keep the battling clean.

RACE A

Gran Turismo 7, Monza, Honda RA272

Race A is purely for the glorious Honda RA272. As already stated, this was Honda’s first ever F1 winner with American driver Richie Ginther taking the laurels at the 1965 Mexican Grand Prix.

As an established engine builder, Honda’s RA272 had a typically impressive powerplant, boasting a 1.5l naturally aspirated V12. It sounds glorious, and even though its power output is below 250bhp the car is a capable racing machine thanks to its sub-500kg mass.

The RA272 is available to purchase from GT7’s Legend Cars dealership for a hefty 2,500,000 Credits (well it was, but it’s now sold out), but thankfully GT7 allows players drive the car for free thanks to its car renting facility.

Although not best suited to the long straights of Monza, the RA272 can easily tackle its high kerbs. The Lesmos can be breezed through thanks to the Honda’s low inertia, while the Ascari chicane can be attacked efficiently by following a conservative line on entry to maximise the exit.

The same applies to the final corner, Parabolica, where a good exit will help prevent the car behind from slipstreaming past on the long start/finish straight.

Recommended car: Honda RA272 ’65 (Legend Cars, 2,500,000 Credits)

Race B

Gran Turismo 7, Interlagos, Mercedes-AMG GT3

São Paulo is the venue for Race B, and Polyphony Digital has continued to make steps towards improving the Balance of Performance (BoP) in the game.

Several cars are in close contention for our recommendation at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace – also known as Interlagos – with the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3, Audi R8 LMS Evo and Porsche 911 RSR (991) tightly bunched. However, our pick is the Mercedes-AMG GT3 ’16.

Currently the dominant car in worldwide GT3 racing (in its Evo form), the AMG is a German V8 beast with masses of traction and downforce. With a couple of high-speed corners and slow traction zones, Interlagos plays to the AMG’s strengths, with enough space to unleash its 500bhp+ power.

Recommended car: Mercedes-AMG GT3 ’16 Gr.3 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free rental)

Race C

Gran Turismo 7, Audi TT Cup, Maggiore

Race C is home to your weekly dose of Gr.4 racing, and, as is tradition with the Gr.4 category, there’s one stand-out car to pick.

The Audi TT Cup is the front-wheel-drive superstar of Race C, blowing its more traditional four-wheel and rear-wheel-drive opponents into the weeds. In terms of tyre wear, however, it may come a cropper as Race C features 7x tyre wear.

Short-shifting in traction zones will mitigate the damage to the front axle so choosing when to fit the required Hard tyre compound will be crucial. And keeping the rubber alive will be tough, as Autdromo Lago Maggiore’s Full Course layout has 17 corners across its 3.6-mile length.

Recommended car: Audi TT Cup ’16 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits or free rental)

Lap Time Challenge

Gran Turismo 7's Lap Time Challenge, 2nd-16th March: Gr.3 chicanery

This fortnight’s Lap Time Challenge features Gr.3 cars at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya GP’s No Chicane Layout.

A new Lap Time Challenge will become available on the 16th of March at 7 am GMT.

Recommended car: Hyundai Genesis Gr.3 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free car rental)
