It’s another varied three races in this week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races. After last week’s well-received mixed-weather race at the Circuit de la Sarthe Polyphony Digital has gone back to basics with a single-make race, a Gr.4 event and some JDM tuning for Race C.

There’s a twist, however, as players can only choose to tune one of the seven Nissan Silvia models in GT7. You should expect to see some heavily-modified JDM classics in this one…

Sport Mode offers ranked online racing where you will be placed within races based on your previous performances.

As ever, your results in Race A will not affect Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR), so feel free to race as hard as you like. The results for Races B and C do count, however.

RACE A

Your guide to Gran Turismo 7's Daily Races, w/c 30th January: Mono-tone

Race A is a single-make race for a plucky British sportscar – the BAC Mono. BAC (Briggs Automotive Company) was founded in 2009 by brothers Neil and Ian Briggs with the aim to create a lightweight sportscar with huge performance.

And the Mono was the fruit of their labours. With fighter-jet looks and a single-seater layout, the Mono is a road-legal track-focused tool. Although it can probably take Copse flat-out don’t expect it to handle the Towcester Tesco run quite as well.

Using a 2.5l Ford-derived Mountune engine, the Mono gets to 60mph in less than three seconds thanks to having 305bhp on tap. Its lightweight nature also goes a long way to establishing its racecar-like handling too, with pushrod suspension and a hydraulically-operated Hewland paddle shift gearbox enhancing its racy reputation.

It’s a machine that’ll handle the twists and turns of Maggiore’s West End Reverse circuit with aplomb.

Recommended car: BAC Mono ’16 (Brand Central, 240,000 Credits)

Race B

It’s back to reality for Race B as we return to the classic Deep Forest Raceway track for a Gr.4 event. Deep Forest holds a special place in the hearts of GT fans thanks to its appearance in the original game way back in 1997.

It sadly went AWOL in GT Sport but returned for GT7 with a few layout tweaks and a coat of polish.

Unfortunately, Gr.4 races have long been dominated by a couple of four-wheel-drive cars, and this week we see the return of the Subaru WRX to dominance. The Scooby is still a ton of fun to chuck around the dips and dives of Deep Forest, however.

Recommended car: Subaru WRX Gr.4 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits or free rental)

Race C

Your guide to Gran Turismo 7's Daily Races, w/c 30th January: Mono-tone

You might think there are hundreds of the things in GT7, but there’s actually only seven. Yes, Race C sees various generations of the Nissan Silvia (or 200SX as it was known over here) do battle around Japan’s venue for the Japanese Grand Prix – Suzuka Circuit.

However, players can flex their creative and mechanical muscles by tuning their favourite Silvia within the strict regulations set down by Polyphony. This includes keeping the Performance Points index (PP) below 600 and power below 345bhp. Weight also needs to be at least 1,000kg.

Buy as many upgrades as you can from the Tuning Shop, focusing on suspension and brakes. If the weight reduction upgrade takes your car below the tonne, apply ballast in the set-up screen. Likewise for power and the power restrictor upgrade.

Don’t forget to minimise your ride heights, add more negative camber and experiment with the rear diff for maximum traction. You can find some helpful GT7 set-up tips in our front-wheel-drive set-up guide but bear in mind not everything will apply to the rear-wheel-drive Silvia.

As far as car choice goes, pick the ’98 Silvia Sileighty. It’s arguably not as pretty as some of the other versions but it certainly packs a punch on track.

Recommended car: Nissan Silvia Sileighty ’98 (Used Cars, 78,600 Credits or free rental)
