After a short delay from an extended server maintenance period, Gran Turismo 7’s November update is live.
Weighing in at a whopping 32.071gb on PS5, update 1.54 adds five new cars, Sophy AI support for more tracks and long-awaited PlayStation 5 Pro enhancements, including improved VR visuals.
Five new cars
Five cars are included in November’s update, and it’s another eclectic selection. Arguably the main highlight is the Ford Escort RS Cosworth, one of the most commonly requested cars with its distinctive whale-tail rear wing. Notably, this marks the first time the road-going variant has appeared in a Gran Turismo game.
There’s also a historic race car, with the 1955 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R driven by Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss joining the roster. You can find the Cosworth at the Used Car dealership, while the Mercedes-Benz W 196 R is sold at the Legend Cars dealership – expect it to be expensive.
Rounding off the new cars is the Porsche Mission X hypercar concept, which previews the electric successor to the 918 Spyder.
It’s joined by another Porsche, the current 992-generation 911 Turbo S, and the boxy Suzuki Jimny Sierra JC. These three cars can be bought in their respective brand dealerships.
・Ford Escort RS Cosworth ’92 (available at the Used Cars dealership)
・Mercedes-Benz W 196 R ’55 (available at the Legend Cars dealership)
・Porsche 911 Turbo S (992) ’20
・Porsche Mission X ’23
・Suzuki Jimny Sierra JC ’18
PS5 Pro enhancements and improved VR visuals
It wasn’t clear from yesterday’s announcement if the November update will add GT7’s belated PS5 Pro enhancements. PS5 Pro support was announced for Sony’s flagship racer alongside the console’s reveal in October, but the patch wasn’t ready in time for the console’s launch earlier this month.
But now the wait is over, with the patch notes confirming that GT7 has received a plethora of enhancements that take advantage of Sony’s more powerful console.
Ray-traced reflections are supported in races while running at 60fps on PS5 Pro. This is activated by selecting ‘prioritise Ray Tracing/Resolution’ in the display settings.
GT7 can also run at 8K resolution if you happen to have a display that supports it, and VR visuals are improved with “enhanced rendering quality” and “smoother video playback” for those who have a PSVR2 headset.
Sophy AI expands
Update 1.54 adds the option to race against Sophy AI on two more circuits: Trial Mountain Circuit and Tokyo Expressway – East Clockwise.
As we’ve come to expect with GT7’s updates, a handful of new race events are available. In terms of World Circuit events, the update adds another Jimny Cup race at Gran Valley Highway 1, a Porsche Cup at Laguna Seca and a Race of Turbo Sportscars event at Mount Panorama.
For car collectors, the GT Cafe gains an Extra Menu book. Unlocked at level 48, the ‘ Ferrari Speciale’ requires you to collect the Ferrari F40, Ferrari F50 and Ferrari Enzo Ferrari. Considering that the F40 and F50 are only sold at the Legend Cars dealership on rotation and cost a fortune, that won’t be easy if you don’t already own them.
In addition, the November update adds a new ‘Colorado’ Scape location, the Rotiform wheel brand in GT Auto and a host of new engine swaps for cars such as the Audi R8 Coupé V10 plus, Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and Porsche 911 GT3 RS 991, providing you have reached Collector Level 50.
