First announced in 2020 as a direct sequel to Dangerous Driving, Wreckreation (not to be confused with Wreckfest 2) is the latest project by Three Fields Entertainment, a studio founded by former Criterion Games staff Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, who worked on the beloved Burnout games.

Dangerous Driving 2 evolved into Wreckreation, which has a more ambitious scope that blends Burnout’s wanton destruction and high-speed races with Trackmania’s customisable circuits.

Trailers have showcased an ambitious creator mode where you can edit tracks in a huge open world while driving with groups of players in real time. Props you can add range from stunt ramps and loop-the-loops to giant rubber ducks.

With no updates since the last trailer dropped in August 2023, there were fears that Wreckreation was cancelled. Thankfully, that’s not the case.

A social media post has broken the silence, confirming that Wreckreation is still in development and in “finalling mode.”

“We’ve been quiet for a while but happy to announce we are in finalling mode – finally,” a post on Wreckreation’s Facebook page (still list as Dangerous Driving) says. “It’s one of our favourite parts of development – hard work, but it feels good to finally heading downhill after a lot of ups and downs.”

It sounds like we’ll be getting news on Wreckreation soon as it’s seemingly approaching the finish line. THQ Nordic usually hosts its digital Showcase events in August, so we may get a new trailer and find out the release date around then, or possibly sooner.

Wreckreation is slated for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There’s currently no release window after it missed its initial 2023 target, so we’ll have to wait and see if it launches in 2025.

With Wreckfest 2 hitting Early Access in March, 2025 could be a standout year for destruction racing fans.
