It’s been five months since Wreckfest 2 was announced. While it was presumably coming in 2025, there was no release window. However, we don’t have to wait long to try the sequel, because Wreckfest 2 is hitting Steam Early Access very soon.
Bugbear has confirmed that Wreckfest 2 will launch on Steam Early Access on 20th March.
It’s not known how many cars or tracks the Early Access version will include, but Bugbear promises “new cars and other vehicles will be added as the game evolves.” Initially, game modes will be limited to racing, derby and online multiplayer, with a “completely revamped career mode that adapts to your individual playstyle,” special challenges and new tournaments coming at a later date.
Cars will be fully customiseable, with more options to be added in future updates including new armour and component types. “As Early Access progresses, you’ll be able to build the banger of your dreams and transform your battered ride into a wrecking machine,” Bugbear says.
As for tracks, the Early Access build will seemingly feature a mix of high-speed circuits, chaos-filled junctions and a junkyard filled with piles of cars to plow into, referencing the original game’s cover art. Up to 24 players can join the mayhem in online multiplayer.
Player feedback will help shape the game during the arly Access period, with Bugbear aiming to “create the greatest demolition derby-style game of all time.”
