In a surprise twist, embryonic sim racing game Rennsport will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S later this year, published by Nacon.

This will release later in 2025, Traxion understands concurrently with the ‘Version 1.0’ PC edition, where the title is currently in free-to-play early access mode.

Those on console will be able to race against those on PC, with cross-platform racing and leaderboards, a setting that can be toggled. Progress will also be synched across all three platforms, as it is tied to a racer’s Rennsport profile and app.

Using Unreal Engine 5 for graphics, and a derivation of isiMotor for physics (as it stands), the project was first unveiled in 2022, and has since progressed through a series of closed and open betas.

The quantity of content available in-sim is presently light, with a mix of real-world cars, tracks and community-sourced modded venues.

“At the moment, we focus 100 per cent on the PC version, but I’m quite sure there will be a console version in the future,” said Rennsport CEO Morris Hebecker to Traxion in 2023. Since then, news on console development has been conspicuously absent.

Nacon will be the publisher on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (PS4 and Xbox One platforms are not included), and the Competition Company (the platform-creating organisation) on PC. The French game publisher, developer and equipment manufacturer will handle elements such as console stores, submissions and certifications.

It recently created a dedicated racing division to handle development, publishing and sim racing peripherals, such as Endurance Motorsport Series and Revosim.

Nascent sim racing title Rennsport is now in free-to-play Early Access

“We’re delighted to be adding Rennsport to our console catalog,” said Sébastien Waxin, Head of Racing at Nacon.

“This great upcoming simulation is part of our plan to develop Nacon’s racing division, and to offer a wide range of games to satisfy all types of gamers, including drivers eager to compete on some of the most exciting circuits in the world.”

It has not yet been confirmed if a physical edition for PlayStation and Xbox will be released, although Nacon has long published racing games in this format. The final pricing model for the 2025 release is also to be confirmed.

Rennsport new user interface December 2024

The title recently updated its user interface, which was demonstrated in November – and released in December – with a gamepad navigating the menus.

Traxion has been informed that the console versions are in a working state presently with an “identical driving experience and netcode”, according to the team behind the simulation. The target on for these platforms is 60fps.

A revised tyre model for GT3, BMW M2 CS and the Porsche GT3 R Rennsport cars has also been released today for PC players, with more content expected between now and the full release later in 2025.
