To celebrate Mario Day today (10th March), Lego has unveiled a new massive Mario Kart set. Aimed at adults, it even has an 18+ rating, presumably due to its complexity.

Dubbed the ‘Lego Mario Kart Mario & Standard Kart set,’ the elaborate 1,972-piece model features a detailed replica of Mario, complete with a moveable head and arms, driving his standard red kart seen in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

An included stand lets you display the kart at dynamic angles to make it look like it’s drifting around corners at high speed.

According to the product listing, the Mario Kart Lego set measures 8.5 inches (22 cm) high, 12.5 inches (32 cm) long and 7.5 inches (19 cm) wide.

Priced at £139.99 / €169.99 / $169.99, the Lego Mario Kart Mario & Standard Kart set can be preordered on Lego’s website, with shipping expected to start on 15th May. For comparison, the smaller Lego Mario Kart set aimed at younger fans aged seven and up has 174 pieces, a workstation playset and a launchable green shell.

This isn’t the first time Nintendo has collaborated with Lego, with previous sets including a Lego version of the original Nintendo Entertainment System, The Legend of Zelda’s Great Deku Tree and an enormous Bowser.

Meanwhile, fans are eagerly waiting for news on the new Mario Kart game teased in the Nintendo Switch 2’s announcement trailer last month. While there are no details yet, a new desert highway environment was teased alongside 24 grid spaces, suggesting more on-screen opponents. Some characters were also redesigned, with Donkey Kong sporting his look from the 2023 The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Fans are speculating that the next Mario Kart (presumably called Mario Kart 9) will feature open worlds after an expansive environment was shown in the trailer, but we’ll have to wait for the full reveal to find out more.

Nintendo will fully reveal the Switch 2 console on 2nd April during a Nintendo Direct show, where we’ll likely find out more about the next Mario Kart entry.
