The Nintendo Switch 2 is here… Well, nearly. The hardware form fact has been unveiled, and evolution rather than revolution seems to be the name of the game.
The only game showcased so far on the upcoming hybrid console appears to be an all-new Mario Kart.
Showcasing what is very definitely a new track, called Mario Bros. Circuit, which looks, in our opinion, to be set in an American-style location with Yoshi’s Diner and dusty, rocky, surroundings.
The YouTube reveal for the Switch 2 is slim on details, although the final shot as Mario and co. drives towards the horizon showcases what appears to be a much larger sandbox than in 8 Deluxe.
Note some kind of power-up in the drive-through area of the diner.
This would mark the first new Mario Kart on a home console since 2014, when Mario Kart 8 landed on the Wii U. From there, that game was ported to the first Nintendo Switch as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which in turn received new and returning remastered tracks in the form of a Booster Course Pass.
In total, the current Mario Kart has sold over 71 million copies.
The next Nintendo Direct for the Switch 2 is in April, and we expect to hear more about this Mario Kart project then.
