An early access build of Sumo Leamington’s Stampede: Racing Royale is available to play now for Xbox and Windows users via Xbox Game Preview.

The free-to-play title follows recent cutesy kart games like Smurfs Kart and Disney Speedstorm but adds its own spin on the genre popularised by 1992’s Super Mario Kart.

Stampede’s USP is its chaotic 60-player online racing, featuring over-the-top power-ups, head-to-head racing and almost ubiquitous arena battles. Its unique course design and colourful graphics perfectly suit the game’s zany aesthetic.

Players can customise their karts and avatars for a unique look, and use boost-drifting and slipstreaming game mechanics for a strategic edge while racing.

Players do not require a Game Pass subscription to play Stampede but it can now be played for free on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Windows PC via Xbox Game Preview.

Plans for a PlayStation version are unconfirmed at this stage, but a Steam Early Access release is currently in the works.
