The proof, as they say, is always in the pudding. Or in video game terms, in the gameplay. We got a bit hot under the collar recently upon the reveal of Hot Wheels Unleashed, a new video game set within a fictional home environment where you race along the famous orange tracks using diecast toys.
Now what looks to be in-game screenshots have been revealed. The initial trailer was exciting but was more ‘target footage’ than actual in-game video. These new images represent something closer to the finished product.
What is apparent immediately is the scope of the levels seems to be large. These are vast circuits, sprawling through home environments. Large, sweeping, turns are featured, and some frankly crazy angles are on display. You’ll no doubt have to keep up your momentum to prevent flying off the course.
The cars don’t look like the Milestone development team has simply downscaled real vehicles. They look like actual Hot Wheels toys, even down to the way the light reflects off the body and the tiny chips in the plastic wheels.
Of course, we don’t know what specification of device these were captured on and there’s plenty of time until the proposed September 2021 release date for things to change. But these images have made us want to get some hands-on time with the game and we’re looking forward to seeing more soon.
