DTM Esports: Jarschel gets championship charge back on track

Reigning DTM Esports champion Tim Jarschel was back on form, with back-to-back victories.

Tim Jarschel has taken two wins out of two at the Sachsenring round of the RaceRoom-utlising DTM Esports Championship 2025.

They were lights to flag victories in both cases as the difficulty of overtaking reared its head for the drivers tasked with passing him, including teammate Lucas Muller, who ends the round as points leader.

Race one

The pole margin Jarschel had over the rest was startling, over two-tenths of a second over a ~75-second lap. Since Muller had come into this round just three points ahead of Isaac Price, he would settle for a front row start with Price qualifying down in ninth, as the sole McLaren in the field struggled with the circuit.

However, the two championship rivals would soon be right together in race one, as a flying start from Price saw him gain four places on lap one, despite contact with Gianmarco Fiduci, which dropped the Italian to sixth.

It was a poor start from Muller, demoting him to fourth, but the battle between championship rivals never materialised, as only Fiduci made serious attempts to make an overtake, something which he was unable to achieve.

Race two

Unusually, Jarschel, Muller and Price all qualified in the same positions for race two, with Jarschel now favourite to do the double given the difficulty in overtaking at this circuit. The best chances, as always, came at the start, but Price wasn’t able to replicate his race one performance, gaining just one place this time.

Another side effect of the track’s single-file nature was earlier pitstops than usual. Philipp Drayss kicked things off after just six minutes, with Jarschel, Florian Hasse and Muller all responding the very next lap to cover off Drayss. Fiduci waited longest to pit, intending to split the race in half to reduce the tyre wear across the race as much as possible.

This didn’t work as intended, though, as he came out in seventh place, promoting Price into the top five. Fiduci’s designs on making overtakes to regain those places didn’t happen eventually, as he tried to get past Leonard Krippner, they swapped paint but not their positions.

And in any case, this would come to an abrupt end for the man fourth in the championship heading into this round, because he underfuelled during the pitstop, and required some massive fuel saving towards the finish. He would finish 12th in the end.

Out front, though, it was another dominant display from reigning champion Tim Jarschel. A double win for the evening, and his fourth of the season, gives him a 50 per cent strike rate for wins in 2025.

However, with some drivers reporting issues with the Safety Car during the second race, it is unclear whether the organisers will have to cancel or adjust the results post-race. In any case, Lucas Muller will be the championship leader, but only by small margins from Issac Price, and teammate Tim Jarschel.
