Sonic Racing: Crossworlds received a wealth of DLC after launching last September, expanding the character roster. Paid DLC packs featured characters and locations from crossover IPs including Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, Pac-Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

This was supplemented with free updates adding 13 characters from other Sega IPs, including Crazy Taxi’s Axel, Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza, AiAi from Super Monkey Ball and Mega Man.

Now, Sega has committed to a second year of DLC, confirming that Bayonetta will be the first free character to join Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds in Year Two. Bayonetta will be playable with a new vehicle: the Butterfly Witch.

More details about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ second year of DLC will be revealed during the World Championship Finals on 9th October and Year Two Showcase.

Sega also announced a second season pass containing six DLC packs during Summer Game Fest. Two of these will be based on Godzilla and the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series.

The Godzilla pack will include a new Godzilla Escape course, complete with the giant monster destroying the city, along with two new vehicles based on creatures from the franchise: Godzilla Cruiser and King Ghidorah Coupe.

Meanwhile, the Neon Genesis Evangelion pack will include a new Tokyo-III course and three futuristic vehicles: Eva-01 (Test Type), Eva-002 (Proto Type) and Eva-002 (Production Model). Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley from the anime series will also join the roster.

As part of the current Season Pass, a DLC pack based on Avatar Legends will launch in October with new characters Aang and Katara plus a new race track.

With its transforming vehicles, unique world-warping and customisable gadgets, Sonic Racing: Crossworlds was a return to form for the kart racing series starring the blue hedgehog. Despite this, Sega announced that it “fell short of sales expectations” in a recent financial earnings report.
