With over 23 playable characters at launch, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds boasts the largest roster in the series yet, with more to be added in free updates and season passes.
Playable characters from the Sonic universe in Sega’s new kart racer range from the titular blue hedgehog to Tails and Knuckles, completing the leading trio. Other characters like Amy, Shadow and Jet round off the main roster.
Outside the Sonic universe, characters from other Sega IPs have joined the roster, including Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza and Joker from Persona 5. These characters were added in a free post-launch update, with a second year of updates confirmed starting with Bayonetta.
Included in the Digital Deluxe Edition, a season pass added characters from non-Sega IPs between Q4 2025 and Q3 2026, from Steve and Alex from Minecraft, to SpongeBob Squarepants across seven DLC packs. Alternatively, they can also be purchased separately.
There are also several bonus characters. Werehog is a pre-order bonus, while Super Sonic can be unlocked by defeating every rival in Grand Prix mode.
