17 years after its last appearance on Sega’s doomed Dreamcast console, Tokyo Xtreme Racer is set for a comeback.

The fast-paced racer sees players take to the Tokyo Expressway, home of the infamous ‘Mid Night Club’ of underground street racers. Still, with scant other information available we can only assume the game will heavily feature JDM car culture, drifting and a lot of neon.

The Tokyo Xtreme Racer series began 30 years ago, initially under the name Shutokō Battle ’94.

Developed and published by Genki, the first title to receive the Tokyo Xtreme Racer moniker was released in 1999 and was followed by several offshoots until Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift 2 (known as Kaido Racer 2 in PAL territories) came out in 2007.

Previous games included AI traffic and RPG-style progressions systems, where winning cash from races allowed players to upgrade and tune their cars.

No doubt fans of the series will be hoping for similar game mechanics with the reboot, which is set to release on PC via Steam sometime in 2025.
