Fresh from its v1.6 update, Automobilista 2 is currently enjoying its most successful weekend ever in terms of concurrent Steam players, reaching a peak of 3,865 at the time of going to press (9 PM UTC, 30th November 2024).
Reiza Studios’ diverse sim received three new DLC packs yesterday (29th November 2024), adding three new tracks and nine new cars, including officially-licensed IMSA content.
Highlights from the Endurance Pack Pt2, Lamborghini Dream Pack Pt1 and IMSA Track Pack include the Mosport, Road Atlanta and Sebring circuits, alongside the Alpine 424 and Lamborghini SC63 LMDh/GTP Hypercars.
As well as paid content, Reiza also added five new cars for free, with the Brazilian developer seemingly making a step forward concerning the game’s handling and tyre models. The new content is also free to play this weekend until the 1st of December, no doubt boosting its numbers further.
The Low Fuel Motorsport effect
Perhaps the main reason for AMS 2’s popularity is its Low Fuel Motorsport implementation, a feature currently in Beta. The sim racing platform offers a wide range of multiplayer races to cater for AMS 2’s diverse roster of tracks, cars and motorsport disciplines.
Naturally, sim racing streamers have quickly jumped on this bandwagon, increasing AMS 2’s exposure and popularity further.
However, it seems to have come at a cost, with many LFM users reporting frequent AMS 2 bugs and crashes as the user count rises.
All in all, it’s been a hugely positive weekend for AMS 2 with hopes high that Reiza can keep up the momentum in future.
