Assetto Corsa 2 set for Q2 2024 release on PC – but console version will follow later

Based on a Digital Bros Financial statement, Kunos Simulazioni’s sequel to driving simulator Assetto Corsa will release on PC in Spring 2024, with undetermined console versions arriving in the ‘long-term’. 

Digital Bros – the parent company of Kunos and publisher 505 Games – released its 2022-23 full financial year results yesterday (27^th September 2023), noting a net profit of €9.6 million for the group. 

But it’s the multiple mentions of Assetto Corsa 2 that’ll whet the appetites of sim racing fans, with the document stating the game will arrive in ‘the next fiscal year’ – which is before July 2024 for the Italian firm. The new information tallies with a previous Digital Bros report indicating AC2 would arrive in Spring 2024.

There’s a caveat to that statement, however, as the proposed Q2 release window is just for the PC version of the game.

Up until now, it was unconfirmed whether Assetto Corsa 2 (AC2) would gain a console release at all, but given the original title enjoyed a successful launch across PlayStation and Xbox platforms – accounting for almost 40% of Assetto Corsa sales, according to Kunos co-founder Marco Massarutto – it seemed almost inevitable.

Now, the Digital Bros filing has confirmed console versions are in the works, but has not specified whether AC2 will be available for old-gen consoles or released on just the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The only nugget of information we have on AC2’s console version is that it will form part of Digital Bros’ ‘long-term publishing plans’. For reference, there was a gap of nearly three years between Assetto Corsa releasing to Steam Early Access on PC in 2013, to its subsequent console unveiling in August 2016.

Needless to say, console sim racers will be hoping for a shorter turnaround than that – we’ll be sure to report on any more AC2 developments if and when they arrive.

What we do know, however, is that the new game will move away from Assetto Corsa Competizione’s Unreal Engine underpinnings, and instead use Kunos’ own proprietary game engine, just as it did in Assetto Corsa.
